Has any of you guys ever had problems when changing your oil? Not just on the celica but on any car in general? My friend and i tried to change the oil on my 95 corolla and man did we have a hard time, not on the oil but on the filter. Damn thing just wouldnt come off, even with a filter wrench. We tried on other cars too like the new accord coup and my friends infinity g20, couldnt get the filter off of those either.

take a screwdriver and stick it through the filter and use it for leverage.

thats the thing, the freakin thing wouldnt budge either way we turned it. now im stuck with using a old filter this time around. hehe, i hope i didnt over tighten. if i did, the next mechanic that tried to change my oil is gonna be in for a surprise, HAHAHAHA

get a craftmans strap wrench.
NEVER over tighten, it gets pressurized and its tighter!

Thats jiffy lube for ya. Those things should only be hand tight. When I was a mechanic I did my fair amounts of oil changes, and some of those filters are pains. But you gotta get it off. It has to be done. Just try and unscrew it like a pickle jar man, and keep at it.

pickle jar, haha. thats exactly what i was thinking when i was trying to twist it off with my hand. probably would have been eaiser if i let the car cool down a lil more, i got burned here and there...

I've never changed the oil on my '00 Celica (dealer does it), but when I had my '87 Celica I bought a socket adapter from Toyota that attaches to a socket wrench and fit perfectly on the Toyota oil filter. That made it much easier, since you could use a long extension and get plenty of leverage without having to stick your hand down in a really tight space to try to loosen the filter.

I've had this issue twice. Both times i beat it gently with a screwdriver. Then, once it finally came of, the oil shot all over me. It was hot as hell. Another thing my beginner ass learned...
LEAVE YOUR CAR SIT BEFORE YOU CHANGE THE OIL!!
