Is it bad to stay in "Lift" long like on the highway or something. And if you downshift do you wanna have it so that the RPM's are right before "Lift" or can you downshift into lift?

dont stay in lift too long. there is not real reason to unless ur speeding up to pass someone and of thats the cas you shouldnt be bassing that same person for 10 min i try to land it at liek 6000 when downshifting, be casreful, if you misshift you can easily blow ur engine. It has happened to a few guys here, when on the highway they went into liek 2nd, rpms go to liek 9 and the car shuts down. so jsut be careful

Is there somebody with a keen bean out there that can explain exactly why that is?
It's just a bigger cam, right?
Is it a problem with heat generation and dissipation? Oil pressure and circulation?
The intense friction of so many RPMs? A build up of tachyon particles from traveling at warp speed? What?
Somebody drop some science here like Galileo dropped the orange.

Somebody drop some science here like Galileo dropped the orange. First of all, it's not a bigger cam. You have 2 cams: one exhaust, one intake. It's a "bigger" lobe on the cam. Second: What are you asking? Why it hurts the engine? He wasn't saying that lift hurts your engine (although it will cause accelerated wear if you stay in lift for lengthy periods simply because the engine is turning faster. I mean, anything is more likely to break when it is at a higher rpm), he was saying that misshifting when trying to downshift into lift will destroy your engine. By going from 3k rpms in 6th to 10k rpms in second will bend up your valves and do who knows what else to the engine that is not built for that kind of speed.

Yes it is a bigger set of cams that comes into play during lift, semantics; Bigger cam, bigger lobe on the cam, whatever you want to call it, it's the same result on the engine.
His first question was:
"Is it bad to stay in "Lift" long like on the highway or something"
To which others replied with things like:
"dont stay in lift too long."
and
"yeah not good"
Not good implies bad, I simply wanted clarification as to why it was bad for the engine. Any dumb cluck can understand why mis-shifting is bad.
Sure, to run a machine at higher rpms will logically accelerate friction and wear. Although the original implication of this post was that extended time in lift would somehow immediately damage the engine.

I don't see how staying in lift could possibly immediately damage the engine. I assume they were referring to the long term wear effects of doing so.

Our engine blocks use a metal matrix composite with bonded-in ceramic fibers, and the piston skirts are coated with iron and tin for wear resistance.
Combine that with a good synthetic oil like Mobil 1 and I'd say the 2zzge will hold up just fine.
