What temperature will the engine plastics get at the most? I saw some engine paint that will stand to about 1200 degrees fahrenheit, but the colors are to plain.
I saw a very nice metallic purple spray can, but it can only resist to about 315 degrees fahrenheit. Will that work or will the heat get to it?
btw, I tried searching, but couldn't really find an answer to this..

You need at least 500 degrees, But i would recommend 1200, because i used 500 and mine is wearin away.

Thanks for checking that for me.
The colors are pretty plain like in the shops here I think I am going to let them chromed, depending on the price.

As long as you use a high temp clear coat, you can use whatever color you want...right?

They were all chromy and shiny, so I assume something can be done to make them look chrome

Im pretty sure thats all that you have to do. Just do a couple coats of clear coat and you should be good to go. But wait for someone to prove me wrong before you go trying it...

that's a good question, I was wondering the same thing. also, what about primer.. if it isn't high temp are you still ok if you cover it with something that is high temp?

I might try a few layers of high heat resistant primer. Than a few layers standard paint. Cover that up with a few layers of high heat resistant clear coat

You do not have to use any high-temp pain for that plastic cover. Mine was done professionally by a shop. They used regular paint for plastics only. It still looks awesome 7 moths later

I would go w/th 1200. I did 500 my little fuse box is already in bad shape, but i put a lot of coats on the big engine plastics and theyre fine for now.

the plasticks dont heat up to 500 degrees. you'll be fine with the 500 degree paint if you have enough coats of paint and clear coat.
