ok so i have a 1990 gt with 2.25 catback exhaust and magnaflow muffler. i was driving home from dropping off my girlfriend in the little residential area. i was cruising real slow because i was tryin to put something away at the same and put a cd in the stereo. a stop sign and theres a cop sitting right next to the stop sign, so i stop casually, and then continue on. i get no more than 5 feet before he pulls me over. i ask what the problem is, and he says that my exhaust is illegal because it doesnt have a silencer in it. so i was like whats wrong with it, and he said exhausts are about 90 db with the silencer and about 104 without. i then go on to ask him how to get my sound level checked and he told me some place and told me the procedure how they have the decible meter 3 feet away from the exhaust and have you rev it up to 3k rpm. so i asked "ohh is this how you knew how loud my car was?, do you have a decibil meter?" and he replied that he didnt. i asked how he knew my car was too loud, and he said that they tested the exhausts, and that no exhaust that they tested was below the decibil limit wihout the silencer. so now i have a ticket for about 130 according to him. now thats some shit...do you guys think that this is a fightable ticket? how should i go about fighting this ticket.. i was literally going 5-10 mph when he pulled me over.

you can get your exhaust decibles measured at a state referee... if you pass your ticket is void...

dude you could always put a cheap ass silencer in it, take it to court, show the cop, get the ticket dropped, and take the silencer back out.

Your best bet is to get it tested and if it passes then you wont have to pay the ticket, but if you know you are going to fail and that it is illegal, not much you can do idunno

wow he IS stupid. WTF.. without silence it's 104? Is he dumb or something.. i mean anyone with common sense should know that there is more than one type of aftermarket exhaust. But if you're illegal, you should do something about it. Take it off and put it back on. grin
