you don't need three gauges IMO...
two is good enough.

Fourgig from www.newcelica.org [newcelica.org] is in the process of making a 3 gauge pod full replacement pillar. The pictures below are of the prototype but the final product will be grey. By Grey I mean, the same color as the Celica's interior.

what 3 gauges would people put in there??
VOLT, WATER TEMP and OIL PRES or TEMP ?
is it really necessary to have any three combination of either of these four???

When was the last time you skipped four years maint on your '2000 Japanese designed automobile - and needed to know if your water temp was too hot because you have low fluid or the antifreeze was not mixed properly (or instead, water was only added).

When was the last time you were involved in a 10 second STREET RACE (because I'm sure less than 5% reading this thread actually do Auto-X) and you were about to blow your engine because your oil pressure was too high.

And what about the other two gauges that cannot be installed to your gauge pillar... the MONSTER SIZED tach (because the one currently installed isnt good enough) and the shift-light.

I'm sure you could also get a Turbo and BOOST or NITRO gauge as well - but chances are, you probably don't have these actually hooked-up inside your car.

And what about that voltmeter - obviously you would need this if you have all sorts of electronics installed - but then if you had all these stereo/game systems installed - you wouldn't be racing your car... unless of course the other two gauges were used because you've added an extra 2,000lbs of "entertainment" gear to your car - or your towing more than the maximum recommended tow amount (2,000lbs)

i guess some people do stuff just because they can... yeah sure, I like all the pretty lights and colors too - at Christmas wave

don't get me wrong - I'm all for innovation... but is a three gauge pod pillar really necessary????

BTW ... picture (1) looks awesome and im sure everything is functional and its nice to know exactly what is going on with your engine - but anything more than 2 gauges on your pillar will make it really hard to get in an out of your car without always playing with the pillar against your shoulder (Pictures 2, 3, 4 and 5) - PLUS, when you are driving down the road in your $20,000 vehicle with another $10,000 worth of modifications added - you'd think it might be a good idea to keep your attention on the road infront of you, and not all the pretty lights from three gauges, plus another two more for tach and speed... PLUS another few for engine temp and check engine problems.

These photos were taken as part of an install guide and to show that the two gauge pillar we sell has excellent fitment - the pillar is not actualy installed in my car.

I would probaly use only a 2 pod pillar. I know I would have a Stoich meter aka Air fuel, but the other one I am unsure about. It would have to apply to the needs of your Celica. Air fuel will show you if your car is too lean (detonation) or too rich (loss of power). thumbsup

plus anything more than 2 gauges, especially when they sit up high (the full pillar replacement and that three gauge pod one) gets in the way of your viewing while driving...it's bulging right there and can be distracting at times and throw off your eyesight..that's my opinion.

i can agree that a 3 gauge pod is too much, but its all about how one wants to build their car, if one wants to put a huge ghey aluminum wing on their car so be it, if one wants to put guady stickers all over the side of their car let them. im going to get a 3 gauge pod because i use my vents all the time, im not going to plug one up with a gauge, but hey thats me someone else may want to. i currently have an A/F ratio gauge and would like to add a Volt meter, and a oil pressure gauge, no i dont auto-x but i do go to the 1/8 mile drag often. sorry for the long run on sentence rant.

I agree, we all have different taste... Be careful before you buy an oil pressure gauge, Correct me if I'm wrong but, but I'm pretty sure you have to run like a steel braded oil line where ever you put the gauge...if it be a pod or a vent, anyway, if it were to leak, you would have a big mess!!!! cry

EXCELLENT REPLY thumbsup thumbsup

..and yes, I was out of line with my original comment - people can do whatever they want with their cars - who am I to tell you what to do... if it was just one person telling everyone what to do all the time, then there would never be any innovation

funny everyone should bring up this topic today. i actually just got back from a shop where i wanted to buy some Defi gauges. However, apparently its illegal to have and gauges on the a-pillar as it "restricts vision" here in australia. eventho i think this is ridiculous, i guess i cant argue with watever the law says so this mod will have to go "bye-bye"...
