Hey guys...I got a new gauge display insert which is white with blue and red ticks (not indiglo) and I also bought a kit to make my needles glow blue. Here's some questions regarding these items:

1. Where do I get a kit of LEDs/LCDs to change the color of the water temp. display, low gas, no seatbelt, check engine, etc. All the "digital" info and alerts on the gauge display...

2. The kit I got for the needles requires that I paint the needles blue with the paint they sent...is there an easier way to change the color of them from amber to blue, like maybe changing an LED for them.

I went to Circuit City and they said it'd only take like 45 mins for them to do it, since I don't know how to unsolder and solder the new LEDs onto the circuit board.

Thanks!

Kristin

Here you go Kristin...
1. http://www.rjautoworks.com/
2. What I did with my needles is that I took a razor blade & carefully scratched off the orange paint on the underside of them. Now you can take a blue or red Sanford's Sharpie marker & fill in the underside of the needles. Works nicely. I left mine clear though(They look cool, only the tips of the needles light up red & look awesome as they go up & down.) thumbsup

Thanks xmangt1, you're always a help! If we ever meet up, drinks are on me!

Now your needles, when you scratched off the orange paint, you only did it on the underside? Wouldn't that still leave the front part orange and it'll glow orange, no matter what color I put on the underside (the side facing the engine?)

So the kit I need is just the blue LEDs kit from that store? This is what I found...
Blue LED's (set of 25 + 2 red for redline) $40

Thanks smile

Hey...I'm a Rum & Coke man!!! Having a drink right now!!! rofl
Well, the needles have the orange paint only on the underside, pretty easy to scratch off. I heard you can also use nail polish remover but I didn't want to go that route. Yes, the SMT(surface mount technology) LED's you just saw are the right ones. I believe they give you a couple extra. Lemme know if you still want me to take care of it for ya. wave

I would totally take you up on that offer, but it'd be way too hard to have to rent another car til you were done and the shipping blah blah blah. Too bad I don't live in Joliet anymore, I coulda driven up to you and we coulda had rum and coke together LOL. I need one right now. Long day at work...LOL.

Was there a reason you didn't wanna use the nail polish remover?

To me, it looks like the needles are orange all the way around...but I can only see what's facing me LOL. That's not the underside is it? Gee, I am confused LOL. Sorry for dumb questions LOL

hmm, ok, sounds easier, my luck I would cut myself with a razor blade LOL. So what did you use to "paint" your needles to your desired color. Marker or paint? Are the needles clear on the underside once you remove the orange paint?

No questions on ECelica are dumb. You will read that from time to time. Believe me when I tell you that the orange paint is on the underside of the needles(the side facing the engine). I didn't want to use nail polish remover bcuz if you add too much the chemicals in the remover can actually deform the plastic needles if left on too long. Aw hell...drinks will be on me if we ever meet up in the Windy City. thumbsup
I'm willing to bet that you started up this thread on here bcuz the last one you did was lost on the crash right? (I looked for your last one). Once again that was a nice pic of you & nice dress. If you notice my sig...it has the Bacardi Bat on it. grin

Oh yeah, TGIF. I think the 5th one came and went a while ago. I'm amazed that my typing is still satisfactory. I love having my Tivo DirecTV monitor next to this one...it keeps me going!
