ok yall , well my stupid ass let my roomate take my car to jump start his jeep. he brings it back and the gts starts fine, everythings good. So then i start my voyage off to visit a friend about an hour away, after i get about half way there the battery light comes on. everything starts to go downhere from here. slowly but surely i loose every kinda power the car has. One by one my electronics start going out. then my speedo even jumps from 0 to 50mph while im just cruisin at high way speeds. how bad did my roomate mess up my car. battery is completly dead cant even get headlights on. im lucky i didnt die cause my car just shut off on me while i was driving. i figure it probably killed the battery and alternator? anything useful?

If he didn't know what he was doing he could have completely fucked up and hooked the jumper cables up backwards on one of the cars accidently. Just a thought. Good luck.

Yea it has to be your alternator. If the car is running and you take out the battery it will still work completely fine as long as its not turned off since the alternator will produce more than enough energy to power everything on the car.

How many mile are on the car If it's less than 80K I'm change the diodes only!!
I change them out all the time on alternators! It's easy! Take it by an alternator shop! Tell them you only want the diodes changed Tell them to leave the brushes and bearings alone! It shouldn't be more than $30. The most expensive one I have ever changed was on a VW Beetle. it was $65 because the brushes were made on the diode as one unit.

http://www.alternatorparts.com/cs130_sbpage4.htm

It will be something like this but not exactly. My 1998 Tacoma maintenance manual gave detailed Instructions on how to change it; but the dealer would not order the part, they wanted to sell a new one, take the old part to an alternator shop and they will order you one a new one!

Trouble shoot the charging system first to comfirm the alternator is the fault first!

Older cars did that, but newer ones don't..in theory they should but it doesn't work like that..

Yea sounds like the alternator went out..could be that the jumper cables were put on backwards..or it could be that your friend didn't let your car run for a little while to charge up his battery, instead he just jumped in and started his jeep..
