I notice a lot of celica owners install single din head units (when they go for an aftermarket stereo) and usually have some type of plastic fitting for the extra space.

Is there a reason not to go double din? Some of the DD HU are pretty sweet. Personally I think it looks a lot better than having that extra space.

Is there a reason for this? or is it just preference?

Anyone have any pics of their celica with a double din aftermarket stereo?

there is more of a selection of options for a single din radio. and the cost is less also. i still have the stock radio, because i have cd's and tapes, but if i were to change it i would get a radio that has a monitor in it

or instead of getting a dd head unit you can just install asingle-d in dash lcd tv screen and then put a single-d cd player below it...you can't get much better than catching a dvd and blaring some sound at the same time thumbsup

single din has way more to offer, like was said .. double din. i have yet to see one that is flashy. cool. and doesn't just plain look gay. plus most cars only have space for single din so that is probably a reason why they dont make many DD. . . honda/acura. . . all have single din i belive. ford and all those others do as well.

single din - flip out 7" screen.. now that's what ya gotta get. . .

ditto...you do have a TON more options if you choose to go single din.

also like i said earlier you can choose to put an in-dash tv monitor or even a cd changer, etc. i have to admit that not many double-d factory units that are replaced with single-d units look too unprofessional and ragged. so if you do choose to go single din then i suggest using two single-d units..unless you customize the area w/switches or something. thumbsup

"i have yet to see one that is flashy. cool. and doesn't just plain look gay"

I was out looking around last week and saw a bunch of cool ones for 200-300...some even played mp3. This is cheaper than the 350 i payed for an alpine.

Hupsohl recently painted his console silver...silver double din would look sweet. Even more so once he gets all blue lights!

But i agree...if you get a LCD put in..and can use the extra spot for a reciever..that would look sweet!

I have a single din MP3/CD Player (god it's do great being able to fit like 150 songs on 1 CD)and after about an hour w/ my dremel tool I installed my XM reciever under it. Plus the space to the right of the XM Reciever is the perfect size for the CD player controller smile
