as some people might know i crashed my car and now its back up and running and since that mini radiator thing or thermostat as i think its called got busted im not really thinkin of puttin another one back in, or is it necessary for that to be in there? So im thinkin might as well take out the whole air conditioning system cause frankly i don't really use it cause it like takes away power from the car and stuff. Well if someone can show me a diagram or something on how to do it or give me a reason as to why it shouldn't be taken out it would help a lot.

leave the thermostat in, it measures your car temperature. Can't help ya with the AC though.

lol, that is a condenser, if you dont want a/c just take it out. you can remove your a/c compressor if you want but with the belt setup you might have to make a dummy pulley, not sure if just getitng a shorter belt will work on our cars, would have to look at how the belt is routed

i would leave the themostate in. which is for made to make sure the car gets to the correct operating temp and helps with the heater. as for the AC you can take everything out. all the lines, and the mini radiatior in front. unless you can find a belt that will work perfectly with out the compresor just leave it in. its only a few pounds. i have done it to a lot of cars. If you do find the correct belt.youll notice how dif ur car feels. sorta lighter and less stress on the engine, and yeah ur heater will still work.

If you don't remove the compressor wouldn't the only beneifit be just weight reduction? Cause the crank still has to turn the pulley from the compressor so you're still losing that bit of HP. Has anyone done this before and know the size of belt that would be needed?

hey i went on a couple autoparts store sites to check for the belts since my belt is squicky. and it ask the question with a/c or without a/c.

To find the correct BELT, we need additional information about your 2001 TOYOTA CELICA

Please select one of the following:
WITHOUT A/C
WITH A/C

might be the same for yours depending on which year and model.

It won't free up anywhere near 40HP... more like 4HP. To me that's still worth doing since I only use my AC like twice a year!

Then you'll need a different belt from the stock celica since the AEM pulley is slightly larger.
