What's the GTS Insurance run for a 16 year old driver, no wrecks... tickets... etc. Just a ballpark. Please specify liability or full coverage, though it shouldn't be too hard to tell. Also which state you live in. Thanks guys!

It's a 2000... if that makes any difference.

ALOT, lol... simply for the fact that you are 16 and a guy and a 'hazardous driver.' I know a lot of my guy friends pay like 200 a month on their cars. it's insane! It all depends on what kind of insurance you are looking for. if you want or have to get full coverage then ur lookin at a hell of a lot of money, lol... if ur just looking for whatever then it will be a lot cheaper... on my 90 all trac I pay $67 a month. I'm a 19 yr old female and I have decent insuance... clean record and everything... I got quoted up to abt $185 a month if I want the high end of EVERYTHING. I have good insurance on it right now, but I will probally up my coverage a little later on.

but again hun, you are probally looking at a lot of money for insurance right now comsidering your age and the car.

Yea, I figured a lot, but was hoping to get a ballpark on any other 16 year old 'hazardous drivers' with the car. Thanks much. I'm also looking for bottom of the line "make me legal" quotes spineyes

I don't mean to be rude, but I think the best way to find out how much insurance is gonna run you is to either get an online quote OR get on the phone. It takes no time at all (I even re-checked an earlier quote right there at the dealership just to make sure I knew what I was getting in to)

Every state is different and there are a lot of options. It's prolly gonna be cheaper to stay under your parents policy (if at all possible). If not then expect to pay some cash if TX is anything like FL, for the simple fact that you're 16 and a male in a "sports" car. And if there are any major modifications on it then it's gonna cost more b/c more than likely the ins co is not only insuring the vehicle, but everything inside it as well.

Don't get caught up in all the different options. For comparison sake just choose the minimal coverage allowed by state law from each company you contact.

Whatever you do SHOP AROUND, and NEVER blindly re-new your policy.

wtf Can you put the car under your dad's name without insurance charging extra since I would be the primary driver?

7000 a year?! cry Can't believe a minor accident would do that... Is that full coverage? If I were you I'd get a mail-order bride to lower insurance costs! I was hoping under my dad's name I could get around 2k a year with minimum coverage... it's still expensive but I could manage.

Hmm I got as low as 125 a month on an auto quote doing everything the bare minimum and saying it's primary use would be for pleasure... this would be my primary car used to get to work and to school... can I still just say pleasure... My guess is they wouldn't find out. If they did what would happen? And I really don't see how they could find out. But that quote wasn't bad. It was under my dad's name. But anyone know a thing or 2 about saying it's primary use is pleasure? Thanks again.

If you're on your parents plan, (in most cases) you can put your dad as the primary driver, and yourself as the primary driver of his car.

For example, right now I'm driving a '91 BMW 318, while my dad drives a '01 Celica GT wink. You have to check the individual policies but in most cases you'll still be covered.

One thing I would note is that my dad and I have the same first name (but different middle initial, so I'm technically not a jr.)...so we can kinda use this to our advantage.

$120/month with my parents full coverage

You insure the car not the driver, and yes they can find out if you put the car for pleasure but you use it as a daily driver. You give them your mileage and if you get into an accident and they see the odometer they will probably deny your claim.

Quit being a cheap ass, if you can't afford the car and everything you need to be able to drive it then don't get it.

Yes and No.

Comp/Collision = car more than driver (but driver's likelyhood of accident is indeed calculated into it).Think about it. They're worried about 1) how likely are they to get into an accident, and 2) how much will it cost to repair the car if they do.

Liability = driver more than car - likelyhood of driver is a factor. Like the above, how likely, but now they don't know what you're going to hit. So the driver pays a even bigger part in the equation. Car plays a part as cars have driving records too. Some models are more prone to accidents than others. Has to do with the type of driver. For example, 2 16yo males, no tickets no accidents, etc. (also no personal history!). One buys a $5000 econobox (not going to name a model as to not start a war), the other a $25000 2 seater sportscar. Which is more likely to get tempted to play behind the wheel and get into trouble??

I drive a 1997 Celica Convertable GT. I pay 425 every 6 months under my dads name. We told them it was just for pleasure used also.

I think I'm pretty lucky. grin

All of this info is wrong.

In any case... it's going to be a lot. Even if you are rated as an occasional driver on the car (this can only be done if there are fewer cars than drivers in the household), it's still only going to make a small difference. It does matter if you go through your parents company though, because you'll get other discounts (multi-car, multi-line, ect). Expect anywhere from $200-$300 a month.

BTW, you said that you want a "just enough to be legal" quote. That's a HORRIBLE idea. You can get 15/30/5 in many states. That means if you hit another car, you're only going to have $5k in coverage to repair it. Lets say you hit a Lexus IS300. You're going to either have to pay $20k out of pocket, or be sued. The difference between legal minimum and something like 25/50/25 isn't going to be that much. Especially since you're young and have a good chance at getting into an accident at some point, I'd highly advise you don't go bare-bones on the liability limits.
