People have told me that you hear a clicking noise and i started to hear it in my engine, so this is why i asked. Do I go to the mechanic shop and ask them to run a compression test or something? Have anyone done this? How much does it usually cost to see if you do have a bent valve? And how much does it usually cost to replace and fix a bent valve? Thanks guys.

compression check

you'll also get misfire codes in the cylinder where the bent valve is (cel)

it may not be visible and may only be a pending code, which only toyota diagnostics can register. which means it could be that your getting a minute amount of missfire but your ecu doesn't 100% think its misfire yet, and will pop a pending code, then the next time that same event is triggerd it displayes the cell.

You would know pretty damn soon if something was wrong.

Your engine would go bye-bye.

yea, if its just noise, dont worry bout it, excess redlining causes it, specially if you push your car early in the morning on a dry start/cold start...but dont worry if its just ticking.

thanks for the good info Eman...i remember buying my car with around 46000 miles and now it has 53000 miles and the engine got way louder. I race occasionally but not beating on my car. I take care of it nice and change oil everying 2500 miles. But i was just worried something could go wrong with it.

If you have a bent valve it will not close, it will get stuck open. If this happens you will lose compression resulting in a missfire. as for the compression check go and buy a compression gauge 20.00 - 200.00 dollars. check the compresion in each cylinder. most compresion gauges have instructions on how to do this. a lot cheaper that going to a mechanic and after you are done you own a compresion gauge to lone to your friends.

I had 2 bent valves when I installed a new timing chain/guides with bad timing. my car died on me haha. Replaced the 2 valves myself.. it was about 23 dollars a valve.
