Would that be possible?

Could you take your detector apart, mount the sensor somewhere, and mount the lighting somewhere else? (Like the sensor in the window or somewhere, and the display for it in the dash or center console somwhere).

I don't know enough about detectors... Anyone ever tried? Or know of someone? tongue

p.s. if you place it in your dash...or window. the cop will know that its a detector..id reccomend that if you relocate it that you put it at the front of your car like but the front bumper where it will be hidden,.. only disadvantage is that it may A get wet. and B wont have and rear protection from rader/laser..

one last idea...they actually make a kit with four sensors that you put around you car, and theres another monitor you can put in your dash or somewhere "hidden"

Really? That's be sweet! Do't suppose you have a link, or a name? smile

Also, I was thinking to maybe mount it in the RV-mirror area (running it from the headliner, so hopefully a cop wouldn't even notice it. But I'd have to actually try and see how things would work, that's only an idea! smile

If you're taking it apart for the purpose of hiding it because it's illegal, think again. In the states where it's illegal, they have radar detector detectors, so you need a unit that's got shadow technology. Look into it. thumbsup

I put a radar detector inside a CB once. I had the LEDS on the front and when U turned off the power the hole thing cut off. I'm looking to do this also. I just don't like the thing in my face! I've toyd with the idea of mounting it in a gps antenna shell on the roof with external IR recevers and painting it to match the car, then run a wire to the insterment cluster and have a light that comes on during detection. But I cannot find an antenna that is a cool shape yet

Make sure when U are done moding to EPOXY the circuit board if U don't use the original case. This will keep it from arcing and sparking.

I'd definately be getting one that's invisible to the radar detector detector (call it a radar detector detector... detector! wink )

And thanks for the link! But that's ungodly expensive for the last one! I could just a radar attractor! (ie exhaust! wink )

I think I'll look in to taking one of the cheaper ($200 range) ones apart. After I experiment with a cheapo $20 one to make sure I can do it! wink
