Sup guys. Couldn't find this in my searches.
I want the AEM pulley. But problem is, I have a pretty high performance system in my car. What can I do in order to get this pulley and not worry about draining out my charging/starting system?

performance-wise it would be a shame if he didn't get the pulley because i know the more mods you have the more you get out of the pulley.

here is a dyno i found of a 5sp GT that has injen intake/trd exhaust/ aem pulley. dan's got a hotshot header so his numbers should be greater.

for performance sake i thinhk he should get it...the worse that could happen is that at idle his lights dim a bit. i love my aem pulley and i have a GT auto. i could only imagine how fun it would be if i had a 5-speed with i/h/e combo. thumbsup

A stronger battery would just prolong the drain. Think about it fellas...your alt puts out so many amps to keep your battery charged (under load and no load). This pulley lowers that amperage resulting in a not so charged battery. My system is a 1000w amp pushing two 600w 12" subs. Let me take a look at those links Rice posted. What about those farad capacitors...what do those do?

I got one installed on mine last sunday and I have a system that has about 600 to 700 watts peak power. I am running a couple of 12's and just to test it I have been cranking my system up and staring at my headlights and didn't see any dimming whatsoever. I have also had no trouble on startup or idle or anything...although now that I have said it I will probably have trouble. but definetly a worthy investment. And stay away from the UR crank pulley, good gains but bad news if you want to keep the reliabilty of your car where it should be.

Rice, those links are great. Thanks. When you guys buy the AEM pulley, is it more than one or just the Alternator? For us its just the Alternator pulley. We can get it for undre $100 and on your site they mentioned $150. Thats a big difference, so I was just wondering if you guys get like a package with 2 pullies. Anyways, I think I may invest in it and I when I do it, since the install will only take like 30 minutes, I will get my alternator tested before and after to see the amperage it is putting out. I will also test it with my stereo amp on and off to see what happens. I'll update you guys then. Peace

Oh, and speed4need...spark plugs won't have anything to do with my charging system, but thanks for the input.

I know thats what us celicas get, I was asking Rice about the RSX's. I don't know if that was what you were implying or not.

BTW, Rice...whats your name? I feel like I am calling you a rice boy and shit when I say 'Rice'.

And thanks for everyones input...much appreciated.

I got mine for 88 bucks from summitracing.com. Install is
easy, just need an impact wrench. the hardest part was putting the new belt on around the pulleys. Also I didn't read to see if this was answered but it is just the alternator pulley. Oh and while im thinking of it, when you turn your AC on you don't get near the power drain, that alone is worth it.

Wow, I didn't know you guys just get one pulley in your set. My set came with an alternator pulley, a power steering pulley and a new belt.

Not sure if I've mentioned this before on this site, but when I installed them in the winter time, defrosting my windshield took FOREVER in the mornings. I mean, the heat wouldn't come on for like 10 minutes, and Greenville SC has very mild winters. Before the install, it was only like 2 minutes or so for the heat to come on. Keep that in mind.

Never took it to a seperate dyno b/c I installed it at the same time with I/H/E...

If I had to do it again, I would've just gotten the UR set, which obviously nets more hp. Oh, and for the last time, the UR set is TOTALLY safe for your car...uh, I think. I know it's safe for mine. idunno

So if the UR is totally safe for your car why do our (celica owners) cars come with torsional vibration dampers? Wouldn't they have not put them in at the factory if they really don't do anything?

The torsional dampener is not affected with the installation of a crank pulley on my car. It's actually on the crank itself, not on the pulley.

Some cars, you have to remove the dampener then the pulley which is bad juju. Is that how it is on the Celica? See, I don't know, only you guys can answer that.

The RSX just has a bolt holding the pulley. The UR is actually better balanced than the stock RSX one from what I hear.

Yeah Rice, Im pretty much positive that we do have to remove the damper, that is where we get all the weight reduction from. almost 3 lbs lighter and you get almost 3 horse per pound lost. Yeah, it would be nice but If I compromised the realiability of my car then it would be like owning an RSX...ha ha!! just kidding I actually looked at RSX's before I got my celi but coulnd't find any good deals on one.
