How much is that serpentine belt you guys are talking about... Squeaks and when you spray belt dressing it gets worse...

I asked this question sometime last year, and BlueBomber responded:

"The GTS takes part #4060763. Not sure about the GT, but the last 3 numbers are the length of the belt. The GTS belt is 76.3 inches, so you'd just need to find out the length of the GT belt and insert that number instead: 4060xxx. You can get it from any authorized Goodyear dealer."

So your saying the belt that is squeaking is the gatorback which runs from 30 - 60 dollars... Now the belt I heard was the serpentine belt which runs through the alternator.. That is the one that is squeaking on mine.. Correct me if I'm wrong

no, the goodyear gatorback is the supposed solution. I don't have personal experience. Mine squeaks when cold, but I haven't fixed it yet. Sprayed anti-squeel and yep made it worse lol. Refer to my previous thread. Do an online search for a goodyear dealer as someone recommended.

I had the same problem. I replaced the belt and it still kept squeeking. I took it to Toyota dealer and they had to replace the tensionior. No more squeeks!

but then I heard from some people the tensioner tends to keep on going bad. the gatorback solves the problem despite a bad tensioner supposedly.

Nothing solves the problem forever, only for a while. Tensioner will continue to need adjusting or replacing as well as the belt. As I've said before I have friends who are on there 4th and 5th belt and counting, I am on my third.

Should run you around $100 parts and labor to replace the belt.

BTW, I didn't want to do it but for those of you that used belt dressing and things just got worse, I TOLD YOU SO. thumbsup

So how much did it cost when you took it in and got the tensioners fixed?

^^ The one time I got the tensioner replaced (thats how you fix it) was under warranty so I'm not sure. The other two belts where just the belt which they have to adjust the tensioner to get on, so there you go.

I would replace the belt first an leave the tensioner be if your out of warranty, see how it goes, may save some cash. If you have the warranty have toyota do the whole 9, take advantage.

Just called Toyota, $140 to replace the belt, price is higher at the dealer I called (waldorf, maryland) than the dealer that did my last one (baltimore).

They also said that even though this happens to almost all celicas over and over that once your out of warranty you have to pay for it. Other than that they just noted that the tensioner rarely needs replaced, just the belt.

well yes if you keep on using toyota belts or some belts other than the gatorback you'll still get the squeaking. even with a bad tensioner on your car, the gatorback supposedly won't squeak. not all belts are made the same.
