i was reading through nc.org and came across an idea that interested me but i need some feedback. what would be the benifits of throwing a 6 spd gts tranny in my 5 spd gt? let me know everything you think and know thanks.

Anything is possible for the right amount of money...

I want to say it isnt possible because of the gearing...youd have to replace everything just like going from Auto to manual...and thats not fun.

Actually it should bolt right up the UK gt's come with the 6spd tranny and the disk brakes.

Well hell, If thats the case then we might as well go to the UK and buy our GT's from over there, cause they have just a wee bit more horsepower than the US Celica's

GT to 6-speed?
with the GT's engine...and it already has the 5 speed and the gearing ratios are where they should be...
bolting on 6-speed will mess up gearing ratios and do you really need 6 gears on a 140 hp engine?

Over here in the uk , the gt has a 6 speed box as standard from the factory though its only good for about 125 mph thumbsup

Don't even bother trying to do this...

6spd tranny SUCKS...it breaks A LOT.

Keep your GT 5spd and be happy.

Wasn't there a guy on this board with a GT that had LIFT? Since he claimed he bought it from another owner who blew the GTS' engine and replaced it with a GT engine that still retained its LIFT ability? I think he said it was a 5spd tho.

Im almost completely sure that the european countries dont have more hp, I think its just the way it is measured. This was explained in a different post but I forget.

Impossible, the GT engine does not have the capability for lift, hence Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence versus Variable Valve Timing with Lift and Intelligence.

The GT's 1ZZ has the potential for lift, it's basically the same block as the GTS.

If the guy swapped a GT motor into his GTS, he probably kept his GTS head and ECU, and put it on the GT block/tranny combo.

The GT block would have a lower compression ratio, as well as a longer stroke. My guess would be that it was rather torquey w/a few less ponies than the GTS (probably about 165 HP or so) Lift would engage, but wouldn't produce as much HP as it would with the 11.5-1 compression.

However, with those dished pistions & lower compression, it's the perfect combo to be used with Forced Induction or lots of nitrous.

1ZZ pistons will work in the 2ZZ, but will lower the compression substantialy.

Building a 1ZZ hybrid would be rather easy, compared to a honda VTEC hybrid.
