Hey Guys:

I know this has been posted a million times, but hear me out. I have a 2002 gt auto and i want to convert it to manual. (ok stop laughing) Anyways i know its better if i just trade the car in for a manual. My grandfather is putting the money up for the auto...and he does not like manuals. So I am trying to do this without having to let him know.

Out of curiosity what parts would I need?
How much would they usually cost?
And how much for Labor?

I know its stupid... but I'd rather not let my grandfather know. Plus I do not want him to think that I am ungrateful for what he has done.

Thx in Advance thumbsup

My grandfather does not like driving them.

At the time of purchase i did not know how to drive one...he told me that it made no since for me to buy a manual and mess it up. If I had the experience he would have let me get it.

Now I know how to drive one.

I dont know of anyone whose converted their 7th gen from auto to manual. I know a lot of 5th and 6th genners that have.

If you go to celica.net (thats a big universal celica forum) and ask around on the 5th and 6th gen boards, you might get better answers. Then you can get an idea of everything that is involved (and it is ALOT of work...). They are great guys and should be able to help you out.

This is the list of parts needed gotten off of a post on nc.org

"had to get the following new tranny new motor mounts clutch pedal lines slave master cyclinder, master cyclinder, bunch of nuts and bolts, pedals, pedal mounts, shifter cables, **** knob, flywheel bolts, flywheel, clutch with pressure plate, shifter, shift boot cover, you also need to cut a prefect hole in the floor for your clutch master cyclinder"

My local shop quoated me aprox 3,000 dollars to do that IF I supplied all of those parts myself.

With the money that you would spend changing trannys, I would recommed getting a turbo and even though you woundn't have the joy of shifting gears you would have the joy of smoking quite a few cars out there...just my two cents.

yeah, you're probably looking at 6,\ or 7 thousand for parts/labor.

Spend that on a custom turbo set up!

I know that after talking to my local shops I'm not doing the swap on my GTS Auto. I may however turbo/supercharge it, nitrous it, and ECU piggyback it wink Who needs to change gears yourself if you've got the ponies to back it up.

I wouldn't waste my time or money going through all the trouble of doing that..

But if you really want a stick, yeah I would suggest trading it in or selling it and getting a GTS 6 speed

An enthusiast of the highest level would want to change gears him/her self.

He also better be a sitting enthusiast, as he waits for his car to come out of the shop with a broken shift linkage rofl rofl rofl
