So I went to a Honda dealer today to see what I'd owe if I traded my car for a 2005 S2k. After some negotiating, I got them down to $31,600 on the S. They wanted to give me 15,000 for my car. Keep in mind, my carfax report is clean and the car is in nearly perfect condition, except it needs new tires. I think the trade should be closer to $16-17k, which is what KBB says. With tax/title/license, it would have been $19000 difference.

No matter what the dealer tells you it will always be lower than what its actually worth due to the fact that they are trying to make the most profit out of it.

A guy at work has an S2K. I don't like it. Anyway, to answer your question, I don't think it's a rip-off. Roadsters are expensive.

^^ ditto.

john..you'll never get kbb value for your trade-in..even if you show them the paperwork. even if you put the car as 'horrible' in condition they still won't give you that either (i tried..when trading my ford ranger for my gts).

the s2k is awesome though...if you get it, you'll love it.

If at all possible, always sell your car privately; never trade it in. Trade-ins are always just another way for a dealer to make money. Then you can actually get KBB value out of your car. Of course you know that; you just need to be patient. S2ks are cool; if I decided I wanted a 2-seater, that would be at or near the top of my list.

fuck that...tell the guy that you want 19K for your car (then negotiate, I know thats a high number) and that youll pay the 31600 and if he doesnt want to make the sell he doesnt want to make the sell...thats a huge sell for a honda dealership!!!!!
