Sorry for the noob question but is there any way to purposly make a Celica backfire. Isnt there some way to release the petals at a certain RPM to cause a backfire? I know you can in an RX-7 so I wanted to know if it can be done in other cars.

Wow, such an uneducated ricer question coming from someone who thought he knew what he was talking about earlier:

Apparently your the one that needs learning, backfire can occur in any car, but the cars gotta be running under some high boost and rich. Backfire is just a way to keep the turbo spooled while not on the throttle. It isn't something that just naturally occurs. Especially in a weak ass little engine like the Celica's. It occurs in highly tuned rally and race cars for a good reason, only thing it's going to do for your Celica is charr up your rear bumper and make you look like a idiot. insult

i dont think he meant flames out the exhaust, but actually make the car backfire, as in the make the loud pop noise.

sooo many haters on here, just wanna call people ricers.

^^ The loud pop noise is a missfire, there's a difference. Missfiring is usually caused because one of you injectors is bad or the timing is way off for some reason. Now why the hell would he want to do that? Im not a hater, people need to understand the purpose behind things and how they work before they decide they want to do it to their car. I'm just telling it like it is. slap

Damn, whats you problem BReakinDrifts? And for somone who wants to looks smart you should try and answer the question. I asked how it is done, not what it is. But I doubt you even read it, you too busy trying to look smart and make up for your low self esteem by calling people ricers. violin

I don't have a problem with people who are trying to learn new things, everyone has been there including me, but when you make an ass of yourself by trying to act like you know what you are talking about then you deserved to look like an idiot in front of everyone.

Google it for specifics and to explain it in deatail, there are different ways to make it happen, usually theres just an extra spark plug wired in the exhaust system that fires when extra boost needs to escape the car without getting turbo lag when you get back on the throttle. The ignition timing can also be retarded, which causes large turbine driving pressures within the exhaust manifold. This in turn creates good strong boost even though the throttle is closed, but when you open the throttle and Ignition timing returns to normal the turbine is allready spinning hard and making boost. The reason Im explaining what it is, is because it helps to know what the point of doing something to your car is.

Yeah and just because you claim to know what you are talking about when you clearly don't know shit, and I just happen to point it out doesn't mean I have low self esteem.

In general, backfiring on deceleration (as opposed to acceleration) is generally caused by a lean condition. What happens is that the mixture leans out enough to where is fails to ignite consistently. This, in turn allows some un-burnt fuel to get into the exhaust pipes. Then when the engine does fire, these un-burnt gasses are ignited in the exhaust pipe, causing the backfire.

my car backfires at low rpms when i dont have the throttle on...

any car can backfire... not everything is "race and fireballs" BReakinDrifTs.

Okay then, what is the correct term when you hear a pop but it's not from bad injectors, and it's from not enough back pressure in your exhaust? Cause I have the poping sound, and it's been like that ever since I removed the stock resonator.

backfires really only occur with cars that run no cats and have a weird mixture for the fuel.

Mine's done it ever since I removed the resonator, and got an exhaust. I think it only does it at low rpms tho.

okay you and breakin need to kiss and make up god I have never met a nismo entusiast like breakindrifts so high and mighty. anyway, my car is WAY (18:1 at full throttle) rich and it backfires ALL the time (especially in low RPM's) maybe you just need to adjust your A/F ratio. Oh and BTW a manji shift IS heel Toe just in a different order but basically the same thing.

18:1 would be an extremely lean mixture not an extremely rich mixture.
18:1 means 18 parts air and 1 part fuel, if I understand a/f mixtures correctly.
