Hi,

I have a VVTL-I engine with 80,000 miles covered.

There is a high pitch squealing noise from the left hand side of the engine compartment. It sounds a bit like a there is a belt catching around that area. It is a constant squeal that varies with engine speed.

I know the alternator belt is around that area, but what else could it be?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks!

Mark.

It's the drive belt. A few of the magazines who've done the testing on the Celica have noted taht the drive belt will get squeaky. You should be able to get it fixed on warranty.

My friend has recommended I try spaying some type of lubricant on the belts one at a time to find where its coming from.

I can live with a squeal, but if its the timing belt I would want to get it replaced before it snaps.

Thanks for the advice.

I've just been spraying each cog on the drive belt one at a time, but I haven't managed to stop or even effect the squeal!

The drive belt itself looks in good condition. Where abouts is the timing chain? is this in the same area?

A friend has advised me that it may be the bearings of one of the cogs.

I'm going to try to find out what each of the cogs are. I see that the generator (alternator), power steering pump and air conditioning pump are all on this drive belt. Where is the water pump located???
