basically it a big canister about a foot and a half long. I think all it does is control exhaust noise. most people remove it because the TRSM and TRD are kinda quiet.

the resignator all it does is control cabin noise, removing it yes gives you a LITTLE bit of power, but only noticeable when doing a Dyno, is not like you will notice the power by just stepping on it. Also removing the resignator gives you an annoying high pitched sound if you don't have such a good muffler, changing the resignator to a high flow, shorter one, gives you a deeper but still louder sound. The bigger/longer the resignator the quiter your car will be.

Hope that helps

Why? How restrictive is the stock cat and resonator that you want to remove it? The car will sound like a weed wacker.

yea only remove the muffler for a louder exhaust noise...that is the big rectangle thing that is connected to the axle back exhaust...

the resonator is the big weird before the cat i think.

I learned from my automotive teacher that the term "resonator" is a misnomer b/c it is actually a "de-resonator" in that it cancels the resonant frequencies of the exhaust and makes the sound much more pleasant and less harsh.

I get my kicks on EC.

The second canister (the one in the background) is the resonator?

thats the cat with the o2 sensor, the resonator is the longer "premuffler" thing behind the cat - closer to the back of the car. its what you can see better in pic 2

ricey has a bit to do with those cheap Pep Boys Mufflers the Honda boyz weld onto their cars...

a quality muffler like Magnaflow or a quality full exhaust system shouldn't sound ricey with or without the resonator.

Wrong. Put that magnaflow muffler (which I use) on without a resonator and you will have that ugly buzz regardless. A resonator is essentially a muffler before the muffler. The muffler, muffles sound (who would have thought). A resonator, well...does the same thing - just smaller (not in inner diameter).

So if you want a non ricey sound, but instead a deep throatier growl, use a magnaflow resonator (that of the same diameter of your piping) and a good straight through muffler (magnaflow makes these also) in your custom exhuast.
