03/04 lift bolts
am i incorrect, in asuming that all gts celica's...even with revised lift bolts... will have problems down the line? i remember seeing a thread where a guy who had an 03 posted pics and his bolts that were shaved.

this is a consistant problem, for all gts engines right? its not just an occasional thing? how often would the revised bolts need to be replaced?

im probably gonna buy an 03/04 celica with 25-40k miles... is it safe to asume that anything over 25 will need to have the bolts replaced?

I'm not sure on mileage, but yes the lift bolts wear out over time. The problem with the early design is that they wore out faster and were more susceptible to breaking. It's not so much a design problem...you wouldn't expect your belt to last forever.

The mileage you change probably depends how much time you spend in lift.

you should be able to keep your stock '03-up lift bolts for the life of your car. if you run your car extremely hard often..i'd replace them once a year maybe.

i replaced my lift-bolts withe the new ones at 40K and the old bolts have shown wear. People have said to replace them every 10K and boy were they right...these new bolts are harder to wear but they DO wear significatly as well...when i replaced them my lift started kicking again back down to 6200 instead of 6500...

please all gts people...don't be a lazy ass...REPLACE YOUR BOLTS EVERY 10K!!!...lol

Is replacing the lift bolts a DYI job? I got only 12K miles on my '04 and I dunno if I should ask the dealer to change for me every 2 oil changes? Will they do so willingly or do I have to force them to do it?

please...for the love of god...do it yourself...invest in some tools and do not let those toyo "geniuses" touch it...they will tell you the problem does not persist with later years of the celica 02 and up...but it does. just carv out 30-45 min of your time and do it.

i bought my car with 15K miles. one of the first things i did was change the lift bolt. its an 02 and the new design of the bolt was inside. believe it or not, there was a very light sign of wearing out a little. well the bolt is gold color, but there was a line going around the bolt on the near top white. so paint chipped off there, but other than that it was OK. i dont know how often the previous owner went on lift and i hope he/she never did. but i am willing to change my lift bolts every 15K miles.

Would a titanium bolt fix the problem, or would that cause ware to other parts? I can have a friend at work turn one out for me if that might be a permanent fix!?
