Damn!!! I guess anyone are right about staying away from this pulley! Didn't know it could do that much damage!!! eek Good thing I didn't buy it yet! How long have you had it before your block cracked? Is it bad???

this is why we tell everyone NOT to buy it.

sux you had to become a lesson for others.

you wouldnt have any grounds to sue them. my advice is bite the bullet and simply buy a new motor.

MWR has fully built ones for $5k or you can get a stock one around $1800 usually.

Quoted from another site:

"4wheeldrift
Crank pulleys fall somewhere between your basic bolt ons and more invasive mods. Some cars respond very well to pulleys, others do not. On most modern cars, your crank pulley also acts as a harmonic dampener. On some cars they will run forever without this dampener, others will kill the bearings in less than 10k. Its a big crap shoot really. Reducing rotational inertia is always a good thing, but you have to weigh the potential for reduced engine life. Most hard core built motors use them, but at the same time most of those race motors are also only being asked to run 1000 kms before a full rebuild. That said, I've got a UR crank pulley on my car. Its not a mod you'll generally notice much from on its own, but combined with intake/exhaust/header type mods it can make a difference."

Quoted from yet another site:

Underdrive Pulleys Our Testing
by James Walker, Jr. of scR motorsports

"In general, the other pulleys in the system are not sensitive to weight like the crankshaft pulley, so harmonic imbalance is not a concern here.

If you do decide to underdrive, though, be aware that while there may be a slight horsepower gain (read more on this below), your components will not be operating in the ranges determined by the factory.

If you are on a race track at constant high RPM, this may actually prolong the life of these components, but on the street, it could go either way a water pump or power steering pump which is designed to operate at a given speed may not be as efficient as necessary when underdriven.

So, in light of the fact that 3 HP was completely without a belt, we estimated that the best we could do was to underdrive a few components by 20% - or a theoretical 0.6 HP gain (3 HP x 0.2). After that, it hardly seemed worth it to try to custom fabricate pulleys for less than a 1 HP gain.

I know, I know stock pulleys, like stock suspension bushings, arent sexy, and you cant brag about them in the pits|but in racing horsepower talks and marketing BS walks. We chalked up this exercise as yet another learning experience in the quest for REAL horsepower. Maybe someday well find some.

I hate to say it, but I think I have to pull the BS card on this guy.

Post #1 from him and hasn't replied. People get so wound up over the net. Plus, I bet you he ragged the shit out of the car, bouncing it off the rev limiter. bla bla bla. I am not even wasting my breath over this one.

lets see this brings the running tally of engine failures to 6 out of 10 reported

2 of those were in the first month of undampened crank pulley usage.

I'm unfortunately on that list, as I had an oil pump failure due to the pulley. I have tried to warn people since then but some people prefer to live & then pay & then learn.

its not a matter of upgrading the parts that will break or fail from the use of an undampened crank pulley because while those parts are stronger its only putting a band aid on the problem, those newere stronger parts will eventually suffer the same fate as the stock weaker ones.

i have been using the ur pulley set for years now and neverhad a problem.
i was trying to do a comparrison of the stock pulleys vs the year the car was manufactured, because i am of the opinion that maybe a few of the pulleys were defective. reason being, i have seen 4 pulleys up close and personal and many more on the net and the 4 that i saw only two were identical in terms of balancing holes (number and size) those online all had diffrent number of balancing holes as well. THIS IS UNUSUAL FOR A STOCK OEM PARTS!

UR makes the alternator and water pump pullies as well as the deadly crank.

I haven't had a chance to put the alternator and water pump pullies in, but I assume that will be fine (esp. w/p), right?

the water pump and alternator "should" be okay they are not uderdriven and arent attached at the crankshaft.

the only difference I noticed in weight was the alternator pulley from ur was significantly lighter, the water pump pulley only felt a few grams lighter, and didnt seem to be worth it.

I'd rather go with aem and get the 1hp gain alternator pulley from them.

"this kit does not include a power steering pulley. kit includes alternator pulley and belt only."

good idea, so weve all learned that aem alt pulley and ur racing water pulleys are safe and beneficial in a small way and any crank pulley will kill the motor...

Hey buddy. No need for the hostility. I was just saying that you are not a reputable source. Its no offense, just the facts. I'm sorry that you got this upset about it, I know having car troubles can affect an attitude on someone.

when people say underdriven, what exactly does that mean? the instructions that came with the unorthodox set called for the exact same belt as the oem one. and that's wrong, the unorthodox crank pulley is smaller, therefore i would assume that you would NEED to put on a smaller belt right? could it be that the damage is result of the wrong sized belt? hearing this is scary...i've had a set of those pulleys for awhile now. nothing cracked yet...although i must say i do feel a difference in power with those pulleys.

i guess a crank pulley being smaller should be sufficient. maybe they should not have been made out of billet..

This article is talking about a BMW; they take a look at
Each of the pulley-driven components under it's hood and the
effects of underdriving them:

i've had mine on my gt for almost a year now with no problems, only thing was i needed a new battery, but mine was going out the window anyways. i'm not sure but i think my heat may not be working at low rpms because of it, haven't thought about that connection though.
