My friend is getting his lowering springs this thursday, and we are wondering if anyone installed their springs at home. Both him and I have never installed springs, but we've done a lot of different mods on the car, so we have the skill to do it.

So if any of you installed their springs themselves tell me what tools are needed, how long it took, any problems you ran into.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

u need a tourque wrench and a spring compressor.
also a jack and jack stands

it's pretty easy to install springs. the first time i did it i took me about 6 hours total by myself and that was with me taking breaks and doing it slow.

but i could probably do it again now in about 3 hrs or less by myself.

some friends installed my shocks and springs for me... and they have lowered 10+ cars overall... it took about two hours, i recommend having air powered tools, its makes everything easier.

by looking at the replies, I figure you need a compressor, I was wondering if there was a way around it. If not I guess we will have to get it installed at a local shop.

^ autozone nappa and all those places will rent a spring compressor, autozone gives you the deposit back when you return the tool so its basically a free rental. thumbsup

i heard you have to bleed the all the brake lines to put new springs in our car? is this true? sounds like its not if you installed yourself. it was an actual mechanic that told me this

you need

torque wrench
spring compressor
good ratchet set
breaker bar

... and it would be really nice if you had an impact wrench.

I heard that an impact wrench can damage some spring compressors and that it's best to use strap type compressors rather than metal ones so you don't damage the finish on nice painted springs.

if you take it to a shop, it will only cost like $100 to get it installed.

dod it yourself if you can get the tools. i just sis mine, if it is in a celi the rears are a pain, but the front is pretty easy. torque wrench or bvreaker bar is a must unless you can put 140 ft/lbs of torque on a small wrench. auto charges 41.95 after tax for the compressors, but you get it all back when you bring them back. you need a strut type spring compressor, they will ask you if you need this or the other kind. have a good set of metric wrench ranging from 10mm to 21mm. you could take it to a shop, and it could only cost you $100, but i have heard some charge upwards of $1000 depending on type of car. i did have to take mine to toyota to get my alingment and camber fixed after it was all said and done and that ran $90. there ya go. if you are doing it on a celi and have questions pm me, i just did it so the install is fresh on my mind.
