I've heard about hydrolocking but never really thought anything of it until tonight. I have an aem cai and when I left work it was pouring down rain and there were puddles everywhere.

I was really scared and at one point I was at a stop light and I heard this really weird noise coming from my engine and then it sounded like it was going to stall so I shut it off. Then I turned it back on and thankfully it sounded normal again.

It usually takes me 10 minutes to get home, but tonight it was more like 35-40. spineyes

i think it is showing how the bypass value works for the aem cai. By not sucking up the water. Correct me if i am wrong.

I heard that the bypass valve has its cons too since it drains a little hp.

ok, now i finally know what a CAI is! woohoo! and i think, if you were really worried about hydrolock, a couple less horses wont bother you. its much better than losing your engine wave

That's no help at all, even the car is motionless and in neutral the engine is still sucking up air, what makes you think throwing the car into neutral while moving will stop the engine from sucking up air, along with water in this case.

U are correct.. I seen that picture on a poster.. Coolest thing I have ever seen. The cai was in a fish tank fill of water and The car was running... U can see the water spilling out of the bypass valve as the car was running. The way those work is, the air that is passing through the CAI is sucked in along the sides of the walls of the CAI so thats the route that the water will follow. Once the water reaches the Bypass valve, it spills through, leaving the air flowing through. Pretty cool. thumbsup

the bypass valve really doesnt help anyway. it will still suck in water no matter what. Just be careful and use common sense.

Hope nothing bad happend afterwards, I got scared too but it was because of this noise that was coming from my engine, it was just my belt thing though (what's it called?) that got wet. Also, this stuff can only happend with cars with CAI's right?

I guess if drove into a lake it could happen without a CAI...
