2002 GTS 6 speed. No engine mods. 21K MI. I was going home this morning from work and engine would only rev to 6000 Pedel travel was normal. I got home on a back road (80MI later) ran like a scalded dog - no defects noted. Is there a safe mode for when the engine was cool? I was racing cars 5 hours before the trip home. temp was 45 Degrees. No lights warning lights to indicate trouble. Any Ideas what is going on? (The TSB for the Lift bolt has not been done to my knowledge)

they are diffrent i think its like 8k thoguh the car won't let you go into lift when its cold (when the engines on one of the first 2 notches on temp gauge)

your all good lol just let your car warm up before racing !

No, in order to rev past 6000 and hit lift in the GTS, the engine temperature must be at least two "ticks" up on the gauge.. it's a safety precaution from over-revving a cold engine.

I believe that the car wasn't warmed up enough also.

I'm going on the same thought and bear with me.

I have a 2000 GTS and my car was warming up in my driveway for 10 min. + and then I was driving around for 30 min + with no trouble.

At a stop light I drove off normaly until 3rd gear when I decided to punch it at around 3500 RPM's. At 4000 RPM's at full throttle my car hit like it seemed a full cut off. No acceleration and jolted me in my seat.
I shifted to 4th quickly and proceded full throttle to exactly 4000 RPM's when the same thing happened.
Any explanation on this?

I hit lift numerous times after that in every gear and even in the same day. Just that one time something went crazy. Any thoughts?

Heh, wives... good analogy rofl Everything needs a little warming up to make it work right. I agree with everyone, watch your sensors. Especially when a Mustang or something pulls up to you right outta your driveway.

it's the same as your nuetral rev limiter. it stops you at 7,100 rpms.

If your car is in nuetral you will hit it.

If your car is too cold you will hit it

If you have a bad launch and over spin the tires you will hit it.
(the ecu thinks you're free reving and sends you into the rev limiter)
I have 15" dr's and I got this a few times because of the smaller tire. I accellerated too fast and the ecu hit the limiter.

We've also had it happen on a turbo gts running a lighter flywheel. he just went too fast for the ecu to understand rofl

anyways. hope this helps explain things grin

this is exactly what my car is doing, only mine cuts out around 7000rpms. i know what you mean about it jolting you in your seat...my girlfriend was getting mad because i kept doing it, she thought i was messing with her.

I had a problem with the engine not being able to rev over the 6k mark one time. I took it to toyota and they say the cam sensor was grounding out and it really was messing the car up. Im sure thats not the case here, it just sounds as if the car wasnt at proper running temp.

Still wonder what the heck caused it in the first place...perhaps some junk in the fuel system..fuel filter, that finally passed its way through?

Just follow Lucky's lead, he knows best. smile

If your celi is low on oil it will not rev past 4k rpms. Its a safety feature that protects your engine from locking up when oil is low. Not that I've ever ran my car with low oil or anything rolleyes *cough* two engines and 4 tranny's within 6 months *cough*
