If the GTS (2522) is 80lbs lighter then the Type-R (2600), does the 15HP more on the Type-R really make up for all that difference to be 1/2 second faster in the 1/4 mile? Why is the Type-R so much faster, better gearing..? plus it probably stays in VTEC the whole way through...?

mag drivers can't stay in lift. especially on the 1-2 shift...people who can drive with a stock gts have gotten 14.7-14.9s thumbsup

The ITR has a better 1/4 mile because of it's LSD and suspension. And other stuff already said.

ITR and GTS i think is a Driver's race with the edge to the ITR because of its LSD. Other than that, i think if the driver's horrible, you'll lose.

GSR on the other hand... GTS can take anyday. Theres a whole thread about this at nc.or-g ...

Oh yeah, in that magazine, those driver's were probably average driver's at best. They probably shifted at the usualy 7800 RPM rather than the 8400 Mark, so NOT landing lift. frown Big Difference.

I never knew that the GTS has better/faster specs when compared to the GS-R.

Exactly, most of these shit magazines can't drive the cars to their actual capabilities due to restrictions such as possibly wrecking the car, so cars like the GTS are given awful reviews such as 0-60 in 8 seconds, which is complete bullshit.

There was some guy who was suppose to be working on a Lift controller which would allow for adjusting lift about 1800rpm lower, Eric Lapka, of E.L. Prototypes, what happened to him?!

Since the Type-R does have LSD, it can hookup better...I wonder if the race was from a rolling start, say gun it at 2500rpm and the Celica driver shifts in lift the whole time, surely that would kill the Type-R right?

Also (a bit off topic) but would a short-shifter help you land lift better, or raise the risk of mis-shifting even more?

lift is fine where it is...the rev limiter is what needs to be raised. ever see Lucky317 shifting at 8600 rpm? it's quite a sight...

The celica is damn hard to keep fast. you have to be right on with your shifts. If you do youll be faster than a type s. Thats all stock of course. Their engine is a lot better for mods.

lol show me an axle back exhaust for a type s that makes 10 whp.

as far as this debate goes...the ITR and GTS are on par with each other. def drivers race. That time in the mag is bull...i have numerous timeslips showing 15.0 @ 96 Mph bone stock (with a horrible launch).

Do i need to whip out physics on everyone and show ya wink

we arent talking about the type s Ken...we are talking about the ITR. ITR is not god. In fact, after looking at its power band, my opinion of it went down a smidge...

its a nice car for the 90's

the styling got old in 2001 so they decided to market something more stylish...

Yeah the Type-R was based on a car that came out in 1993 (Japan), so it started getting old fast. If our cars came with LSD (can we add one, is that possible?)... and that damn VVTL-i came on sooner (for us average drivers) then man would the GTS ever own! Hopefully one of these days someone figures out the engine and comes up with a VVTL-i controller.

The powerfc can alter the engagement point of lift. However the duration and overlap variances set on the stock high cam profile prevent it from making any really usable power when lowered. A solution for this might be available soon
