Hola everybody. Got a small problem, my cold cathode box thingy melted. OK so i have 2 ccfl's 1 ac cold cathode and 1 S7 gauges. The 2 ccfl's are hooked right ot cig lighter with switch. The S7's and AC cathode are in the same fuse splitter. Its the black kind with the 2 fuse spots on it so everything is protected. Well last night my AC cathode went out, then i smelled burning plastic. So I turned off the lights and looked where the fuse was to check that. That was ok, so then i checked the wiring to the cold cathode.. it was ok. then i looked at the little blue transformer (orwhatever it it) box that the cold cathodes plug into. Well becasue the box hodl 2 cathodes, 1 spot was open, and that spot had melted down. So now i put in a new blue box, and hooked up the cold cahtode to the cig lighter as well ( unfortunatly now it is always on) Any ideas why this woudl have happened? do you think it will happen again with new hookup? On a sidenote, i have all of the black wires from the 3 different thigns gounded to the same spot, would that matter? Thanks al for your help and sorry for the very long post.

PS, please ignore all the bad typing, i am in a hurry smile

Ah...physics/engineering stuff. I need a diagram of what you're talking about because plain English won't do. From what I'm seeing, you do have an open bay. This open bay melted. I'm just confused as to how it could have happened. Your ground is fine. This probably isn't for the message boards confused ... go to a local audio if all else fails

well i put a new one of the power connector parts in and it seems to be fine. i also now have it powered from the cig lighter. maybe it was jsut a bad part frown

Here is a pic of the inverter i am talking aobut. it is the blue thing in the pic. On the side with no wires in it, there are 2 open connector spots for the cold cathodes to plug into. 1 was empty (it melted) and other had my cold cathode. Well the cathode didnt work after it melted, obviously. It was powered by a fuse splitter from fuse 18 (tailight) . I jsut replaced the blue inverter and seems to be fine. i also powered it form the back of the lig lighter now.

Hope it works. if you need more explanation or have any ideas let me know. As of now its fine, but i want to prevent it fomr happeneing again.
