Drums to Disc

Has anyone tried, or is it possible, to convert the GT rear drum brakes to disc brakes? I hate the stopping power I have now and would love to convert to disc in the rear also. Thanks!

yeah it's definately do-able. I'd say while you're at it get an ABS computer from a junkyard or something and hook that in too!

I talked to a guy at SSBC and he recommended upgrading the fronts too if you're gonna convert the rear to disc. He claims the rear would be grabbing more than the front causing the car to react weird under hard braking. He may have just been lying out his ass to sell more though..

Cool, I'll have to do a little more research and see what I can find. Apparently this project is more popular with old cars and mustangs. I worked at a Toyota dealership for a while and I've driven both versions (GT, GTS) of the Celica many times and I do see a bit difference in stopping. The stopping on the GTS is smoother IMHO. I can't feel the car shifting the weight forward to the front as I can the GT, the power when stopping is more distributed better when you have the equal amount of equipment on all 4 wheels.

As far as ABS is concerned, wouldnt I need a special dust cover or rotor with sensors for it to work? Or is it all pre-wired and all you do is bolt on? I live in Florida (Holiday) so if anyone knows of a local junk yard with Celi parts please let me know. Thanks for all your help so far! thumbsup
