Check out this post I found on another celica forum. Makes you think twice about getting a intake w/out a bypass valve.

Did you read the whole thing... he said "this customer didn't have a cold air intake, but this was also a freak accident."

Again - Don't drive through a LAKE and you shouldn't have a problem.

If your intake is 2 feet off the ground, you don't drive through a 4 foot deep puddle. I dunno about you, but 2 feet of water is rather deep and obvious to see, doncha think ??? - - You drive a SCC, not a boat wtf

Do people really mistake their cars for a boat when it rains??? How come it's been rainy winter here for so many years already and not every second topic is about hydro-lock?

Oh well...

the line represent how deep you have to be to hydrolock...as you can see...you REALLY have to be in a lake to hydrolock a celi

regardlss of wether he had an intake or not, its still a fucked up engine bc of water...and this is something that is common with intakes...i was merely pointing out that if you're thinking about getting an intake and no bypass valve, you should look at this...i wasnt saying this was bc of an intake...

hydrolocks do happen. even with the stock airbox...but such occurences are like being struck by lightning. there are tens of thousands that own celis and maybe a hand full who have hydrolocked (some due to stupidity i.e. driving in deep puddles with no underside plastic, etc.).

...and even aem has stated that their bypass valve will not stop hydrolock if the filter is completely submerged in water...which is strange...because that's the only time you could hydorlock rofl

...btw. calm down. this is a forum. live and learn

Im sorry haggard iamstfu I didnt mean to offend you, i was just trying to say that hardly any celicas get hydrolocked.

most people know cars can get hydrolocked, the people who buy cais usually know and are willing to take the risk. again my appologies rice

I hydrolocked mine back in Jun. It was raining for more than 6 hours straight, before dawn, and Portsmouth has shitty drainage. By the time I realized the water was more than an inch deep, it was too late. Oh, and CT, you need to move the blue line down to the top of the door sills. That's where the water was. You forgot to take into account other car's wakes. Not cool, not fun. But hey, for $500 I got a brand spankin new engine. I really don't recommend it tho...

woo hoo. go SRI's wink sure there is less proformance, but no hydrolocking here. well unless i drive through a lake. i thought about it once, but then i decided it may not be a great idea wink Man i miss my jeep in these situations. had a snorkle, coudl go through 6 feet of water and be fine wink that sucker was sealed up everywhere, minus the inside, so i woudl have gotten a little wet smile

yeah... because the link you posted had NOTHING to do with with cold air intake - the author even wrote, "this customer didn't have a cold air intake, but this was also a freak accident." wave

BTW

1. a bypass valve wont stop you from hydrolocking because your intake has to basically be submerged for that to happen

2. if A drop of water even gets onto the filter the oil on the filter won't let it get by.

3. this is not at all very common with intakes only with morons that drive through lakes.

Now take your intakeless car and get out of here you midget.
