I bought an Ichibahn red leather shift boot because I'm tryin to red-out my entire car (well, for the most part)...
But as you see in the pic, the boot doesn't sit up against the plastics for a nice look...it hangs.

Those not familiar with Ichibahn boots, it's made of thicker leather than the stock black boot, and they use elastic in the bottom seem so that it wraps around [something]...I don't understand why.

The question is: anybody got any ideas how to make it sit up where the stock boot used to sit?

I have the same boot and I had trouble installing it at first but then I found a little trick, leave the old boot under the new one and use the clips that help the old boot. you might have to use a screw driver to fit it in, but it works. I have it on my car with no gaps at the bottom. I can take pics later if you want.

Ok, here they come, 4 pics and I couldn't really take pics of the underside, but here's the final result. I will explain the install with a bit more deatails at the end.

Isn't the Ichibahn leather too thick to fit the stock and Ichibahn boots under the plastic clips on the underside?

Nope, as you can see it fits, you might have to pull out a flat-head screwdriver, but it will fit, just make sure that you don't bend the hooks. Don't forget that I have my stock boot under the new one.

dude, i've the same black ichibahn boot. i did the home depo racing. rofl i cut the boot a bit by the nylon cord and pulled out the cord. got a thin steel rod and bent them into the same shape of the stock boot bracket, then slided into the ichibahn boot...done... smile

Seems like you could take the nylon cord out and just put the stock boot under the Ichibahn boot and done...

I'll try these and see what happens.
Thanks guys!

Hey, thanks! I posted that back in August to see what people thought. I've since turned the sub facing rearwards and am toying with the idea of remounting the sub into something that matches the rest of that setup. I also have left over transparent red paint from doing my gauge needles, so I might paint the back of the MTX logo so it really glows red.
The whole purpose to that setup was so I could have a bigger trunk...the top of that case is even with the seats when I fold them down, and I don't have to lay anything diretly on the amps and wiring.

Next up: red window tint, red Sparco seats and harnesses, maybe those red door inserts on the e-celica store...
Probably the tint and an in-dash DVD player first since I'm gonna be driving a lot in a few months (will be picking up customers at my new job). If I could only find someone who will tell me the trick to getting a screen to work without the e-brake on, as illegal as that really is...
