i do not know very much about lowering a car since i have never dealt with this but i have heard good thing about tein so i think i will go with them but i want adjustability since i would have to adjust it a lot i see that they have a 0-4inch drop so i could stay at facotry height or drop to 2 at the track-what i would like to know is if these can be adjusted with the rims still on? and is tein as good as i have heard they are?

Coilovers are an expensive way to just lower the car...maybe try springs? If you just want the lower car and the adjustment, try skunk2 or another brand. REAL coilovers are $1000+

get coilovers. if you are willing to spend that much go for it. I personally would go with Hotchkis.

OK first off Tein does make coilovers for more than a grand. Secondly everyone here makes a big fuss over Tein when in fact it is the shittiest suspension one can get in Japan. However there quality is very good still and i really like there products.

So what's the best in Japan? JIC Magic?

I've heard bad things about Skunk2 that the ride is aweful even when not lowered for those coilovers.

Ground Control uses Eibach Springs which are universally regarded very highly. I don't know about the coilovers, but I love my Sportlines.

celicadragon, are you interested in shocks also? If you are going to the track you might think about getting adjustable shocks with different levels of dampening. The Hotchkis shocks are non-adjustable (I don't know if that means they are stiff to begin with, but that's the case). You can go KYB AGX or get the Koni adjustables. There's also the Tokico Illumina series which are adjustable. Some models of the Tein, Tanabe, and JIC Magic coilovers are adjustable.

One thing to note is that some people probably get confused because sometimes the term "coilover" describes the adjustable spring, and sometimes it is the adjustable spring with the shock, which may or may not be adjustable. Does that makes sense? The real term for spring + shock is strut. But I don't think anyone says adjustable struts. You just have to look at each product to see what it does.

A webpage with a lot of suspension components for the Celica.

http://www.hopupracing.com/suspension29.html

Now who says we don't have much aftermarket support?
well we've got suspension at least since our car is famous for its handling.

for the ride height adjustment you have to take the rims off, but not for shock adjustment at least for KYB AGX.

Get adjustable shocks if you plan to do the qtr. You want your suspension as stiff as possible to minimize weight transfer to the rear for max traction in the front. And on the ride height you'd probably want to go as low as you can with a slight lean to the front. Of course you have to be at least 3 inches above the ground in the front to clear the beams (but that's only an issue with pro cars).

Uhm if he goes with the Tein Full coilover it is the shock and spring or strut and srping all together.

I have the Tein HA's and they are badass. They are stiff but i knew that and still went with the HA's. mine were $1500 installed but this was like 2.5 years ago.

You have to jack the car up and take the well off to adjust the ride height, to adjust the dampening all you have to do is turn the knob at the top of the schock/stut towers under the hood, the rear are harder to get to but it is still very easy thumbsup

Tein might be crap in Japan as said before, but one of the best here for Celica owners now. I have said this before and will say it again. I have had in the past some talks with several people regarding the Celica. I had these talks because I had major plans for "it" when I bought it. Tein wasn't even introduced into the states like it is now and that's mainly all I heard was if you can get Tein get it; from Japanese reps for other companies working here and not even for Tein.
Jic was also on my list, but more money than I needed to spend. The talk of Jic now will deter even me.
Talk of poor customer service and even more poor craftsmanship due to a relocating of manufacturing plants due to cutting cost (so I heard) and some I'm sure will swear by it.
I was offered Zeal B6 Function for $1800 some years ago. I should have taken it. There are things about Zeal in the states also. They changed there tune about construction of the shock body from steel to aluminum. I still regard Zeal as one of the best to go.
All I can say is what I have said many time over. I have had and still do have the Tein HA's (almost 2 complete sets) and I am now riding on the SSP's. They are more than enough for a "daily driver" and an occasional track user. I have some pros and cons about them, but they are overkill for most Celica drivers and owners, but far far greater than the average spring and stock strut combo or the average spring and aftermarket strut combo.

i was hoping they could be adh=justed without taking the rims off since they are always a bitch to get off i dont know if it is just the rims i have or if celica rims just dont like to come off but i guess i gotta do it if i want the perfromance so i should do either tein or hotchkis i will talk to both companys i have to say that hotchkis celica kicks ass and that is all hotchkis suspension so i guess that says somethin in itself

JIC has a terrible reputation with the US Honda community.

i thought that jic was the superior coilover design. Monotube designs are more superior than twin tube designs, right??

if jic had the edfc, i would definitely place jic first before tein. But now im planning to get tein ssp w/ edfc because im willing to sacrific a bit of performance for the convenince of adjusting the dampening from the dashboard of my car and the module looks cool too.

suspension stuff is kinda confusing -but the ones that say 0"-4" drop means you can stay at factory height with those springs if you anted to right then just change it for the track

KW has a very good reputation for making high quality coilovers. They make coilovers for the celica that is fully adjustable (both hight and shocks.

The EDFC gimmick will were off in about a month if you get it and it doesn't look as great as you may think. Adjusting the front coilovers for me about a minute and the back with half attached plastics 2 minutes. Once you get them right you won't have to really adjust them only occasionally. I'll go in my driveway and try things or at Drunken Doenuts real quick and I'm off again. I have it pretty much figured out what to set my coilovers at. That saves me 350+ and the plus is for the professional installation of the EDFC to make it look great in a great position. The
If the EDFC is the skull splitting decision on those two companies and coilovers you're better off getting a real good spring strut combo.
