When I got my GTS back in July, I was regularly getting 33 or 34 mpg with it. Then about month ago, the mileage dropped off to around 31. I thought it was maybe because of going to a TRD air filter, but it just didn't make sense. Then last night I was getting gas, and read the info on the pump about how in the November - March months here in Arizona, the fuel is 10% ethanol. Has anyone else noticed a drop in mileage in the winter?

Over here, Shell states that they use 10% ethanol too.

my MPG ratings differ for some reason. sometimes I get 33, then 29, and even around the 10s area. WTF.

gotta clean the throttle body and MAF sensors. i've already put that gunk remover for the gas tank. spineyes

Why's that? Is that 22 with the Celica, or did you mean 32?

Well it must be. I can't think of anything else. Ethanol fuel doesn't quite pack the power of straight gasoline, so it makes sense. The same thing happened with my previous car (mileage dropped in the winter). So, duh, after all these years I think I figured it out.

Im getting 20 miles per gallon (city). I put $25 dollars at $2.35 per gallon gave me about 10 gallons of gas. Kept track of it and for 10 gallons it gave me 200 miles and I dont drive my car hard.

GM have a few trucks are using ethanol fuel. it's actually cleaner and better mileage, but not for our car...

Ethanol fuel is alcohol...which is a higher octane fuel than straight gasoline...so your engine should run harder with higher octane fuel...cough alcohol dragsters cough...How they get higher octane fuel is by adding some ethanol into the regular gas.

Ethanol burns cleaner...only producing water vapor if it's pure...and is more powerful...but i'm not sure about gas mileage.

I normally get ~24mpg...90% of my driving is to and from school which is a 3.5 mile trip one way...and 2.5 miles of that is steep hills...the road up the hill going to my house is a mile long. I think that's pretty good mileage...and i rev it fairly often for sound as much as speed. TRD exhaust = -3mpg tongue...highway i get ~30. Premium here is like 1.95

ethanol should be the way to go thumbsup
there's this one dude who imports 100% ethanol and uses it for car fuel. he uses it for his old car, i mean really old, like the classical kind, and it's quiet as hell.

Honestly...our country should convert to ethanol fuel. I did a huge research project on it last year for the Technology Student Association...i dunno if anyone heard of it...it's a pretty sweet international group...but anyway...

It can be produced by fermenting any sugar...most commonly the starches in corn...so it would preserve the diminishing farms in america...as well as keep the business and profit in america and not abroad. Some most recent vehicles can run on ethanol fuel with a few modifications...My dad's 99 ford ranger is the v6 flex fuel model which can run on ethanol fuel. Our gas tanks would have to be beefed up big time...and the fuel delivery would have to be modified...but the engine still runs on the same principles...so i really think it would be awesome. Some tractor trailors run on ethanol already but most people don't know about it. There are even some ethanol 'gas' stations out west but most people don't know that either. It is easy to make, runs clean, is more powerful so we wouldn't have to sacrifice performance like hybrid cars...and it would make so much money for the U.S. in the long run...and keep us out of wars...I don't know why we don't just take the initial hit and do it honestly...hydrogen fuel is produced by burning oil...so what's the real point? Anyone else have an opinion on this? maybe it's a diff. thread topic...

sometimes the gas gauge misread and shows a lower gas reading. the other day i was driving around with two of my firends. i had 1/4 tank exactly (according to the gauge). 1/2 an hour later, the gauge went up 1 step.

Yeah, I've read that an engine tuned to use ethanol can get better mileage. It only reduces mileage in engines not designed for it.
