Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a cai off ebay, but almost all of them say they're for manual transmissions. Does it really matter what type of transmission the car is for? Seems like the only thing that should matter is if it's for a GT or GTS

I've heard the gains from the Ebay CAIs aren't really good. Unless its an Injen or AEM one from someone on Ebay. From what I've heard, the gerneric oned don't really do much. I guess if its the roar of the CAI you wanted, then go for it, but if you want HP gains, then go for TPR, Injen, or AEM. They've proven to get more HP. I'm not sure about the auto or manual part thought. I got my Injen and it is for both auto and manual.

no the transmission does not matter. I've only heard good stories from eBay intakes, you can do the blue bomber mod to help things out! thumbsup

ya man shouldnt matter if auto or man, but the gt or gts does...i got the ebay intake as a matter of fact! and it works great! if they tell you it doesnt give good gains(no offense spectraGTS!) they are going by hear-say! i got the intake and it performs as well as the ones that you can buy for over 100 bucks! it sounds hella sweet and you can feel it pull especially during lift! i have a manual gts so i cant vouch for autos...trust me man...spend 40 bucks or less to get the ebay intake...you'll be happy...you'll be very disappointed when you buy that expensive CAI and have to cut it up or cant use it bc of cels...i have a pic in my profile...just dont get a short ram...i think its pointless..put in the extra efford to install the CAI..it will def. be worth it! thumbsup

Why would you cut a CAI? And why would you only have to cut an expensive CAI and not the ebay one? Explain that to me.

sorry i meant if you had to do the bluebomber mod, which causes you to cut out your stock intake tube and attach it to your new intake tube..thus making it longer and you have to cut your new expensive intake tube up...but thats only if you got a cel..which is very common with installing new intakes...you can buy like 4 ebay intakes with the money you spend on a AEM intake..my intake is made of the same material as you except with a generic cone, which i can always upgrade to a K&N later on...that is also what i recommend...

you get what you paid for. the ebay intakes are made of thinner and softer aluminum. the quality isn't the same with AEM, injen, or other name brand. why? i have ebay and injen intakes. injen is the car, while ebay intake is somewhere in the garage...

it works for me man...i learned my lesson...i spent 150 on a intake for my last car and i couldnt even hear it let along tell if it actually worked...and to make matters worse..it was made of plastic...with this ebay one..it looks awesome, and can hear it sucking in air everytime i shift, and i can feel it working...it doesnt just float my boat, it feels my moat for the boat to float!!!! wtf

Personally, I want the best for my car. So I reseach and invest in what I feel is better for my car. I'm very skeptical that the ebay people do the research that Injen or AEM does. I think ebay CAIs are mostly ripped off Injens or AEMs. I've never seen a dyno posted on ebay. Until they do post them, I wouldn't buy from them. That's what I think, but I don't own your car, so do what you want with it. Nobody can force you to do anything. Its up to you.

i agree totally with you guys when it comes to performance..but as you said before, if it works for you then do it! the ebay intake works great for me..the way i see it...if you get a turbo, the intake becomes useless bc you get one in the kit..if you get a cel, you could possibly do the bluebomber mod, ruining the intake, i mean..with the AEM intake your getting..what..4 more horses than me??? maybe? i can get AEM pulleys and the ebay intake for less than what you'll pay for your AEM intake...you shouldnt really knock on somebody bc generic parts..bc...i know..you shop at wal-mart..and buy the toastie-o's...ya and the fruit rings...as long as it works right????

hey i vouch for prettymuch everyhting off eba.y i am an ebay freak. If you are willing to do the blue bommer mod get an ebay one and cut the tube. If you want a high quality intake that you wont have to do the mod spend a fortune and get a high quality one. Now really a pipe is a pipe. More expensive ones may last longer due to higher quality materials,a dn have nice filters. Cheap ones can easily be replaced if you break something.
Its all give and take. Also some peopel jsut cant afford a big brand name thing. Now i am vouching for short rams smile I dont care for power as much as sound. MY gts has sweet power as it is, but the soudn from the short ram is jsut awsome. And it looks spiffy under the hood. I really think it comes down the filter quality more then pipe. I know i have not taken a side but i am an ebay man with philosophy of cheap goodness smile I like my rmm sri though.

Its all up to you man, and your bank account. Dont base your decision off of what other members like or dont like. Its your car so do what you want with it.

PS sorry for all the typos, its late and have been studing for like 48 hours smile

thanks for all your input guys. i agree with hombredelassrtas. just b/c somebody doesnt buy the most expensive part out there, doesnt mean they dont love their car. i mean if i buy my dog a collar from wal-mart instead of getting a gucci diamond studded collar, does that mean i care for it any less?

Just to clear things up... I'm not dissing ebay. I bought my Injen CAI off of ebay. I found a certified dealer that was posted on the Injen website. Karumamotoring or something like that. I got it for <$200. So I wasn't trashing ebay, just you gotta be sure of what you buy on ebay. Check the feed back rating on every seller you are considering buying from. Just don't get screwed. Like I said earlier, its your car, do your thing and don't let anyone tell you what YOU want. YOU get what YOU want. Just do your homework before buying and enjoy your new CAI, whatever brand you get.

I say F all the CAI's and Short rams. Just stick alittle pice of pvc on the end of your throttle body, drill a hole for the MAF. the jsut cover the end with the blue filter stuff from your AC smile cheap, easy, stylish. You can also put an adaptor on it so you can hook up your leaf blower to it. Instant supercharger. Man i should patent this stuff wink

I have seen the "leaf blower CAI" like hombremySNistoolongtorembeer said.
That's pure crap. Although I like the idea of my car picking up my hot neighbor's panties on the clothes line.
On heresay and pure speculation alone the E-Bay CAI should be and perform identical to the AEM CAI. No difference.
