It's been awhile since I posted here. I feel like my celica is falling apart, so I'm going to pack all my questions into this one thread smile

1) Tires. My rear tires are about to wear out, and they're unbalanced, so it's causing crazy vibrations at high speeds. This is going to be odd, but I want recommendations for long-lasting tires, not performance tires. I've had performance tires on it for 4 years, and they wear out after 15k miles. I drive 30 miles to work every day, all straight highway, and usually at 70 mph+ I need somehting that will last a long time. I don't need cornering performance at all. Suggestions?

2) Rattle noise from behind the dash. I remember seeing a link on this site before regarding the cause / fixes for it. I can't seem to find it now. Anyone have any info on this? Even at 30 mph, there's this unnaturally loud rattle / creeking coming from behind the dash. I have no idea what it is.

3) Brakes. From a stop, if I inch forward (say at a fast food drive-thru) the brake *clack* every time I stop. I'm supposing I need a brake job as well...

4) The shifter linkage squeeks... I know the answer to this one, lube it.

5) Idle is strange sometimes, it dips really low, almost to the point of dying at a stoplight but it recovers and comes back up to "normal" slowly. ECU check? Spark plugs perhaps?

6) I have a bulb out in the front right headlight. It's not the headlight bulb, and it's not the high beams. Apparently there's a 3rd?

7) I have a fog light that's flakey, it doesn't come on half the time, but if I get out of the car and tap on it, it will spring to life.

8) The ever present trunk rattle. I have a 12" sub and it sounds like the lock housing it the culprit. I can't find a way to stop the rattling though. I suppose I could dynomat the whole thing...

*wheew*

It's my New Years resolution to get all this stuff taken care of and get my Celica back in top condition. Any suggestions / advice would be appreciated smile

#4 - silicone spray linkage behind your intake - 30 second fix

#6 - sounds like tiny "parking light"...$9 in EC store...30 second repair job after plastics are removed

#7 - sounds like loose connection. Remove pins in wheel well and stick your hand down there for the ultimate jiggletest

best of luck with your resolution. Tip for 05: don't let the problems pile up...it's a lot easier to fix as they occur unless there's $$ issues!! wave

man you remind me of myself, the little shit gets to you(not raggin on you at all) but for the trunk rattle, i have the same thing sounds like its coming from the handle area, i had my trunk ripped down to the skeleton and i found out what it was. if you pop off the plastic on the inside of the hatch, the mechanism that triggers the trunk to open when you push the handle has some slack in it. i went to ace hardware and bought some felt sticky pads and put one under the handle stopper and some on the inside and the rattles gone, hope it helps thumbsup

1. invest some good money on some good tires. you end up paying a bit more, but it will last you longer. consider pirellis, michelins.
2. there is a link here that explains how to fix that. its scanned off of the maintanance manual or something like that.
3. this is common on any brakes on any cars. when ur brakes wear out, ull hear a squealing noise when you driving. *clack* is not a sign of new brake pads and its nothing to worry about. hopefully next brake change the sound will go away. go with genuine toyota brake pads and see if you need ur rotors resurfaced if you really dont want any noise in the future.
4. WD40 solves the case
5. Clean ur MAF sensor. Check for vaccuum leaks. check out ur air filter. its most definetely the MAF sensor, or else the idle control valve
6. Its the parking light, its a very small bulb thats on the side of the headlight. replace it. very simple and easy, less than 3$
7. bad connection. jack up the car and check the wiring and the back of the fog
8. dynamat, fatmat, or wutever some ppl buy off of home depot that they say its the same shit as dynamat plus its cheaper.

ur problems arent anything serious at all

Thanks everyone!

I think the one that bothers me the most is the 'behind the dash' rattle. I'm going to look around alittle more for the link about how to fix it. The noise literally competes with my exhaust as the primary noise of the car hehe.
