use colored plastic - take a RED/BLUE/GREEN tinted notebook folder cover and cut out the size you want... then drop it into your dome lamp casing.

This will be MUCH BRIGHTER than switching the light bulbs... and will not be as hot either happywink

actually, it's an excellent 15 minute project for anyone who wants to change the mood of the lighting inside their cars - and still keep it bright enough to remain useful thumbsup

Just go to autozone or call before. Everyone I have been to has them. The red cover might look good but the blue cover blows.

Added a new guide just for you guys...
https://celicahobby.com/ubbthreads/thread.f5_1953384315_0_collapsed_2__1.html

After opening the map light enclosure to take the bulb out, I walked into the local pepboys/autozone and matched up the size of the bulb to something they had there in RED... BLUE and WHITE was also available. Then replaced the bulb (while still in their parking lot)

The total project cost was under $4 for a single package. Although you only need ONE, the package included a set of TWO bulbs.

Took under 5 minutes to complete and after a few jokes about now being able to develop film while driving rofl - I was happy with the new "mood lighting" that was installed. Then after about a week, I went back to stock lighting so I could see easily maps and such while driving at night.

this only works if you have a sliding roof/single-end bulb... but a good suggestion though thumbsup

The light bulb cost is under $4 for a package of two - the rubber/gel bulb cover is about $3 for a package of two.

the cost difference is about $1 happywink

I tried the blue rubber gel cover from Autozone, and wasn't too impressed. For starters, it's a sleeve and it's pretty tight getting it over the round bulb. If you don't pull the sleeve all the way up over the bulb, you still get white light coming out the end, and it doesn't look good. Then you've got the problem that it just isn't bright enough. I took it off, and may try the tinted plastic technique next.
