Writing my 2nd thesis this year and am doing it on whether or not it's cheaper to swap a tranny from auto to manual so I was wondering if you could post everything you know about this topic and or the benefits/disadvantages to having a manual/auto. I'm supposed to write my last fourty notecards to complete my hundred. Please post ASAP I will quote all of you and give you credit in my thesis, thanks!

Well, I feel that manuals keep people more focused on the road and on driving and not on making cell calls and shit (cept for those who are really good at stick). Autos are easier to handle in bad weather, which is nice. It's definately cheaper to buy a car with a manual as opposed to swapping. There's more to it than just changing the tranny. You also need to remove/add the shifter, drill for the clutch pedal, run shifter cables, clutch cables, re-tune the ECU, it's a lot of work. It's not really something someone can do in their garage, nor something a local shop could or would do. It's something that really only a manufacturer can do.

BUMP

Due tommorow, please help, also tell me if these are correct:

The Auto GTS is the slowest in it's class
Auto GTS has a "sportshift"
Auto GTS has no real clutch
All the sportshift does is let you manually control the gearing in the tranny
MR2 does have a clutch in it's sportshift
A manual tranny costs a couple thousand
Manual cars are around 2.5 sec.'s faster than their auto counterparts
Nause does not make flames come out of the exhaust of your car
The Auto tranny makes the celica slow

here's my question. you're asking an openended question.

"and am doing it on whether or not it's cheaper to swap a tranny from auto to manual"

so you're asking whats cheaper but you give only one option. this doesnt make too much sense and I'm not sure how to answer. perhaps revising this would give you better results.

swapping is pointless, the mechanics of the car are based on the transmission it was built with

sorry, lol, the other part is (look I know it's dumb, an idiot can answer it, lol) or just buying a manual. But I really wanted to make this to inform people about cars and tranny's and all that good stuff, I might change it later though I still have a bunch more time, just need those notes for the remaining 40 notecards though.

ok see now thats a simple answer. I can sum it up in few sentences lol

It would be more beneficial to just buy a manual to start with.

Here's why...

If you buy an auto car and then convert it to manual you are not only paying a higher price for the car to start with (all dealers charge $800 and higher extra to have the automatic) but then you're going to pay for not just a new transmission but ALL of the supporting parts to go with it including labor.
I'd estimate the total cost being easily near $4-$5k more then if you had just bought the manual to begin with. with that much savings you could've had the manual and some very nice modifications on top of it. you could have purchased a turbo kit or basic bolt ons and just about every common looks modification.

see that wasnt so hard lol
