What Edmunds.com Says: Toyota will eschew all likeness to the Volta concept in the design of its next "super car."

What We Know: Contrary to rumors, Toyota's Supra replacement will in no way, shape or form, bear any resemblance to the Giugiaro-designed Volta concept which appeared in Geneva last March. Toyota does, however, plan on delivering a high-performance sports car along the lines of the departed Supra some time between the end of 2006 and 2007. This two-door, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sport coupe might be built on an all-new platform, although it's expected that Lexus will not build its own variation. The car will probably be priced under $30,000 and some sort of prototype could very likely debut at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show.

I've known this for a while mainly because as an on the side type deal my dad finds out what new cars will be released. Then he buys the first few spots in line to buy them. He had the 27-30th Continental GT's that came to the US and he will sell the spots. Most of the time it only costs $50-$150 to buy the spot and someitmes they go for a ton. My dad had the 1st 3 spots for the SL 600 and each of them sold for $20k!

As of right now he has the 1-7 spots of the new Supra based car Toyota will be releasing. The new drive line that Edmunds was talking about is really sweet. My dad told me that it has the power of a V8 with the gas milelage of a I4! He also said that the driveshaft is different, so it makes the floor in the back flat! It sounds like it will be a really sweet car.

My car is gunna be 10x faster than yours...haha... I'm gunna buy like 10
of those speedchips! I figure if 1 gets me 20hp then 10 will get me 200hp!

welcome to 6 mo ago,

those pix are old, its loosely based off a wider wheel based mr2 spider,

possibly another MR performace car that is in the works or just a test mule skinned with mr2 body who knows.

I saw these pics a while ago too...and i really think it will happen. Maybe it won't look that way...and I'm not sure what kind of engine they will put in it (god i hope a turbo)...but think about it...toyota drops the celica AND the MR2...they NEEEEED a performance car. I'm sure they'll make one.

"Mechanical features: gas engine"

^^^ Nice specs!

With the car all covered up like that, how do they even know for sure it's a Toyota? At least it's an actual photo, not just a drawing. Maybe Toyota is finally going to give Honda (S2000), Nissan (350Z), and Mazda (RX-8) some competition in the $30K sports car segment.

If it is true, I'm sorry to say, but I'll feel terrible for having purchased the Celica! That's IF they could possibly sell it for under $30k grin

They say that it has the growl of a V-10 or V-12.

But don't expect that big of an engine to come to the production car.

Even so, that car, even with all of the covering still looks bad ass.
