What clutch to get

About two months ago my tranny started grinding going into second gear. At first I thought that it was definitely the synchro but then I started to wonder whether or not it was just the clutch. (I really hope it's just the clutch!!) As far as I know my car has the original clutch in it and I am at a little over 77,000 miles. Around Christmas I am going to pull the engine and replace the clutch. I just need to know what clutch to get. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Put it in 6th at like 30 and floor it. If your tach jumps it's your clutch.

So if your clutch is ok, what would happen at 30mph on 6th?

You would very very very slowly start speeding up. If your clutch is gone, the rpm will just jump to redline.

yeah on my 5th gen celica i had the clutch went out on it. You can be putting in first or second. and just drop it all the way up into high gear and floor it. You will stall most the time and start to crawl off very slow. But if the clutch is slipping it will be like having the clutch in the floor and revving your car up it wont go itll just rev up. Clutches arnt to bad but getting it installed is a pain in the @$$.

Well, my tach doesn't jump if I floor it in fifth gear which really pisses me off because it probably means that my problem is my synchro not my clutch. Any suggestions?? Thanks

It's your synchro. I think when you get those replaced it's a good idea to go ahead and replace the clutch and everything with that. Don't quote me on that though, someone smarter will come along and post.

When the problem first came about I thought it was the synchro and then I started to think that it might be the clutch since it has 77,000 miles on it. I will be replacing the clutch myself in a week or two. I need to know if anyone has done any tranny work, specifically replacing synchros, because I would like to do this myself too. I have a full shop so access to the right tools will not be a problem. I need to know what I'm gettin' my self into. Thanks
