alright, got the pictures finally.

here's the story. i was just parked. the other guy had an auto remote starter on his 1997 nissan altima with clutch overide.

unfortunately he left his car in reverse and when he remote started it, it went across two curbs and landed on top of my hood.

got a call from the insurance adjuster today. it was $2004 in damage.

Oh well, at least it's only body parts. Should be able to give you a new hood and bumper and take care of it. Just make sure you get it done at a good body shop.

you can see he pushed me like five feet from the curb. ruined my passenger side headlight, squashed my hood and scratched my bumper & fender. not sure exactly what was damaged internally though. can't wait to see the damage list when i get my car back...

car should be done by next week though. biggest thing is just waiting for the shipment from vis in california.

i'll try to get the raised carbon fiber hood scoop off for you all 'cause it wasn't damaged.

you should tell your insurance agency that he had an illegal remote-start-clutch-override system. law suit?

That won't matter. He's already (obviously) at fault and responsible for the damage. You'd have to try suing for punitive damages to get anything else, and that's a pointless attempt when the car was parked with nobody in it.

He should get everything back to the way the vehicle was prior to the accident, custom mods or not. Insurance doesn't make provisions for whether you have stock items on the vehicle, as long as the mods are documented. thumbsup

what if the mods aren't documented?
Then you can't get the amount of money that you spent on the mod? how does that work out?

My advice to you is not to take the money just yet. If you can afford it, fix the car first then take the money. This way, if it actually cost more to fix it, the insurace company will have to dish out more cash. If it actually cost less then dont tell your insurance company and pocket the rest for pain and suffering.

The problem with this mentality is that insurance companies rarely overestimate...so they end up spending more money when the shop gives them the bill.

I use to drive a civic, which had been rear-ended. The damage didnt look that bad so the insurance offered me $300 so I took it. After taking it to the shop, there seem to be more damage than it appear to be. It cost me an extra $100 to fix it. So just make sure you get an estimate before taking any money from the insurance company, if you havent already.
