Just wondering if anyone know exactly what the problem is with this pulley? Is it bad quality or just screws up your engine. I was reading the review on another site and a lot of people seemed to be raving about how great it is and that the performance gains are huge. But I know there are also a lot of complaint about this product too. So could anyone please clear this up for me? Thanks!!! grin

But isn't it just a lighten pulley? How does it wear out the engine?

its not that...its the fact that they have to take off your harmonic dampner to install it...and our engines rev so high that if the re-install of the dampner (balances the engine) is off even by the littlest bit, it fucks your engine timing and how smoothly the pistons travel in the cylinders because the crank is unbalanced and what not

So, it's not so much the product that's bad... it's just you have to get someone who really knows what they're doing to install it... Correct?

yes unorthodox makes it and the aly and aem also makes the alt which i heard is a better pulley than unorthadox but for water you have to go unorthadox

If you have a GT, no problem with the pulley. Alot of GTS's oilpump broke because of this pulley

it seems like most of the people reporting problems have a gts. im not sure if its the combo of the three pulleys that does it, but i had my pullies on for over a year with no such problems. the only problem i had with the crank and alternator had to do with my automatic transmission. the pullies were effecting my shift points and causing my car to shift weird and the only thing i could do to fix the problem was to do an ecu upgrade. cant efford that so i took them off.

Did you notice a lot of performance gains? Was it worth it?

This pulley is crazy , you got ~8-10 HP and 10-12 lbs/torque!

no most people took them off when they heard about the blown oil pumps. the oil pump is a weak point in our engine anyways and the crank pulley really does a number on it.
If you value your car you should not get it.

also when we dynoed the ur pulley we saw around 3 hp so the gains not worth the risk IMO.

the whole thing about the lack of harmonic dampener causeing the engine balancing to be thrown off doesnt make sence to me with the celiicas. Heres why...if that were the case with the celicas that have had problems it wouldnt be the oil pumps that would be going, it would be internal engine parts. But I havent heard of anybody having those kinds of problems. I think the increase in rotation speed with the new pullies is just putting too much wear on the oil pumps, and their blowing. I wonder if the lift feature with the GTS engines is contributing to the problem or as i stated before the added water pump pulley with the GTS.

I dont know. Just some thoughts.

I'd call the oil pump an internal engine part. And on the other Celica site I heard about advanced bearing wear being found and attributed to the UR crank pulley.

I get my kicks on EC.

the oil pump isnt inside the engine, its attached. I havent heard about the bearing wear. That would be a result of an unballenced engine

Damn, that's too bad! I'm trying to go all motor with my celica and that pulley would really help. Even a 3hp gain that Lucky stated wouldn't be that bad at all, but it's not worth blowing my oil pump for! frown

you my friend have no understanding on how cranshaft vibration and harmonic vibrations work.

removing the harmonic balancer (the damend crank pulley) increases harmonics to everything connected to the crankshaft.

the rods, the oil pump ect.

The last person on the other celica site was raving about how his friend who was making cranshaft pulleys was so much better than UR, and guess what 1 mo later blown engine, cause ? undampend crank pulley.

when you concider purchasing this product ask yourself this simple question

IS even a SMALL chance this will blow my engine REALLY worth it?

the rest is up to you.

Can't remember the name of the company right now; but there is a performance crank pulley for our Celica that has a harmonic dampener built into it; I'll try to dig up the name.

I thought they didn't make a water pump pully for our car cause you can't remove it or something. that's what it said in the AEM pully info that you only get 1 pully and a belt because the crank will kill your engine and the water pump pully can't be removed.(it only says it in the fine print "some kits only come with alt pully and GTS kit is one of them")

UR makes crank, water pump, and alternator pulleys. AEM only makes the alternator pulley.

Maybe I'll just stick with the AEM alternator pulley, I'll just find other means to gain power... not easy going all motor.
