Does this thing actually work? has anybody used it? i know it's nowhere near being as good as a dyno but i am just wondering if it's worth 200 bucks.

It definitely works... just how accurate is the question. Their ads are on every car mag. Don't think it's good for finding exact HP/TQ figures. But it'll be a good tool just to found out how much gain you've made from certain mods, and time your 0 - 60 acceleration / 1/4 mile...
