Well, I went out today and just got some new tires. The factory Yokos were getting close to bald (the treadwear indicator was level with the tread!)

I shopped around, and was close to getting a set of goodyear Eagle RS-A's, which are a damn nice all-season performance tire. But after talking to the guys at my local tire shop, they happened to have a set of tires on hand that would fit the factory 16's; After a hands on inspection, and hearing the price was about $60 less than the eagles per tire, I opted for a set of them:

Kelly Charger HPT

Kelly has been making tires and belts for a long, long time. They are actually goodyear tires, but it's an off-brand (like General tire is to Pirelli)

Nice aggressive tread, long wearing compound so they'll last way longer than the yokohamas, and they have good wet and snow traction. best feature was price, $80 per tire. So far I'm loving them!

So, anybody looking for replacements for the stockers, it's a good deal; I got them at Just Tires, but lots of tire shops carry Kellys. I totally reccommend them thumbsup

Also got a new battery earlier this week (the factory battery just gave up the ghost after 21K miles on a whim) I picked up a Duralast Gold for $75; Not as cool as an optima, but pretty much the same in terms of reliability, reserve and cold cranking amperage. I'm fairly satisfied, as is my car, with all the new purchases this week.

So they're the same size as the factory rubber... do they fell any better?

yes, way better.

Compound doesn't feel as "Gummy" as the Yokos, but in terms of grip, just as nice when the compound is warmed up. I expect these to handle great in the summer. lot better in wet conditions

The center rib makes a big difference, on straights and in curves, the car rides like it's on rails; definitely more responsive to movement of the steering wheel.

The tire techs say they should last me about 50K miles the way I drive. bonus!

Yea, I checked out the fuzions before I bought theese, the tread is nearly identical, but as I said the compound on the kellys seems to be a bit harder than the fuzions. The way I drive, I prefer a harder compound (bear in mind, I wore down the yokohamas in about 20K miles, and that's with regular tire rotations)

Fuzions are nice, I and still thinking of getting a set for summer, when I get a set of 17's put on.

you two should make a trip to the south suburbs. i live in frankfort (west of joliet, east of chicago height). if you look at mapquest, i live a few blocks west of the intersection of route 30 and route 45.
