New to these boards... just wondering if I picked up one of those new hood scoops if there was any way to put, say, red neon lights behind it to sort of give it a cool look when the headlights are on (night time)... quasi Knight Rider type thingy. Any ideas?

er, ok it can be done... I assume that was the view of the underside of the hood. How hard is it, what would I need, is it visible from the outside with the hood closed? I wanted sort of a red eye/cyclops look while driving at night.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

According to the picture, that setup looks to be fastened by a pair of plastic ties and the wires are held together with electrical tape.

It looks as if the light from the neon tube is visible but not the tube itself (when the hood is closed, light on, night time).

what about engine heat? would it be srong enough to do any damage to the tube? plus all the wind, is twisty ties going to be able to keep it stable enough? but anyways, definitely a bada$$ mod if it works out. thumbsup

Yes you can and I have an MBautosport hoodscoop and with the way that I did mine, you can see the neon itself from afar, but best when looking directly into it. When I drive behind my friends they say they can see it from their rearview and side mirrors. You put 2 3inch neons ($40) on the metal casing inbetween the scoop and the hood on the little arch(it fits perfectly in there) I used electrical tape at the ends to keep them in and they work fine. I've got pics if you want, I can email some to you. I don't know how to put pics on here. Sorry.

I would love to see any pics you have. Where did you get the 2 3inch lights? What color? if you have it on a URL post that or email to jason_osborne@ncsu.edu and I will post all on a URL when I get a chance.
