You can see the hidden lines behind the panel if its in the dark. My temp indicator is 1 notch away from the half point where its suppose to be. I took it to the dealer and they say they can put in a new thermastats which will cost $207. They say the problem is that its getting old. I guess I will just have to live with it.

Dear god dont do that. Clean the thermostat and see if that helps. Also Disconnect your battery termials and let the car sit for an hour afterwards. Use a Polishing cloth.

Just take some fire to the thermastat and see if it opens.

^^ that sounds like a good way to damage it. your better off doing the boiling water method.

as for the temp probe on the MAF, it has to do with intake temperature. Colder air is denser, so there's going to be more of it, requiring more gasoline.

Reinstalling the alternator after replacing the thermostat is a major PITA. Only two bolts hold it in, and aligning them is hell. thumbsdown

The funny thing is that the temp indictor was normal until I removed the MAF even though the MAF had nothing to do with the termastats.

after readin this today... i noticed too that my temp indicator only made it up to the 2nd last notch before the half... I dorve the car for about 1 hour and it didnt past that point.. could it be because itz colder outside and it takes longer for the coolent to heat up?

Yeah, I'll vouch for that.

I still don't understand where your temp indicator is...

Is it where it is in the picture of my dash below? That should be normal when the car has been running for a while.

Are you saying that it's "one notch higher?"

There are two notches higher than the one in the picture below. Both are bad, but one is worse.

How do you know that the problem is with your thermostat and not with your engine coolant mixture/level.

When was the last time you changed it or flushed it?

Please explain, I'm slow.

The temp indicator is above the mileage. And from what the dealer told me, they said that they cant raise it up another notch because it was getting old. So if I wanted a new one so that the indicator will actually go to the half point where it should, then I would have to pay up. Its not really a problem but it just annoys me.

The one above that means you are running hot. The one above that means that you are a dipshit and need to put coolant in, or you have a serious problem with your coolant system/lines.

The halfway point (the point that is in the picture above) is the 3rd from the last point.

Above the halfway point is a hotter point, and above that is a point above the H.
