I saw my friends Hyundai tiburon the other night, and he has this really nice hood (Stock) that has held up by the same sort of system as the hatch on most cars.

Anyway to make the celica like that? the old style manual latch is kinda stupid, and I am often under the hood to fix stuff, so it would be a cool mod!

Does anybody have any idea what the hood weighs?

I'd need to buy 2 lifts one for each side that would support the entire weight of the hood each to be extra sure it wouldn't come down.

Any ideas guys? sounds like a nice mod to me!

I've been contemplating doing the same thing for about 6 months now...the only problem I can figure to run across is where to mount the gas shocks to the car.

yeah, I've been trying to think of a good place.

maybe mount the base down on the side of the engine bay at an angle then attach them to the hood so they push the hood up and out.. confused

yea there only is so many options,im sure its do-able and will cost under $75

i wanted to make my hood open the other way or to the side like a car door because then it'd be easier to work in it

Not really, you can use a electric linear actuator.
You can get these things really small and they lift a lot of weight

I meant just a lift that didn't require you to hook that stupid metal rod into the hood.

the hood would open much like the hatch.

if you are referring to just putting airshocks in ther like the hatch thne it won't open on its own. you will need a motor or hydralics. hatchs adn trunks open by beig springloaded. i wouldn't want a hood with out the safety latch and if you have the latch still installed you need to get out anyway to open it so why not jstu put airshocks in the hood so you don't need that stupid prop rod.

it may not be as fancy, but Lokar makes a cool billet hood prop that permanently mounts. You pop the hood, and lift up on it. the hood prop automatically locks, and is notched so it can be set at different levels for shows and such...

You can get one of these from summit or JCWhitney, as well as lots of other sources.

You can read more about it here:
