Ok, so somehow my lugnuts managed to magically super tighten themselves. I was trying to take my wheel off this afternoon to change brake pads. They were on so tight that I managed to break the tuner key. Now, the tip of the key is still in the lug. How the hell am I supposed to get it out, let alone remove the lug? I've ordered a new key, but that won't help me get the piece out.

well just hit the key really hard with a hammer (specifically a rubber mallet if you have one) for the lug if its that bad you might have to get a impact wrench to get that thing off.

If you have enough room in your lug nut to fit a socket, you can take it to a tire shop where they can remove it with a special socket. Just hope that the lug nut isn't cross-threaded.

Ok... so this is going to make me seem REAL stupid, but the reason I broke the key is that I was trying to turn the wrong direction. I was trying to tighten the lug when I really wanted to loosen it. I admit, that's pretty stupid. You have to understand, I was attempting this with a pretty severe headache. Shouldn't have been doing it, but the breaks squealing was about as painful as the headache itself.

lol Always remeber the rule of thumb (Righty, Tighty. Lefty Loosey). smile You can buy these special sockets at an automotive shop that threads around your old socket.

I think they are fairly cheap. If you do get one of these remember to turn it the right way. (or I guess turn it the left way) smile

Good luck. thumbsup

at autozone a nice breaker bar is like $20 and the socket thing is like $3-4. makes taking lugnuts off a breeze, you can remove lugnuts with only one hand! assuming of course it is turned the in the correct direction.

happywink
