i want to purchase the unorthadox racing pulley set for the water alternator and crank and i have a system under 600 watts which is what their site says to not go above-this is my everyday car and i need to still keep reliabilty and safe running just let me know if you have installed these and have no problems or even if you do have problems what are they?

the only pulley that is safe for our cars is the aem alt. pulley. the UR crank pulley has been known to cause problems with the water pump...there seemed to be a 44% failure rate over at new celica.

if its ur every day car and you want to keep it reliable then don't get a crank pulley it doesn't have a harmonic damper on it and will wear ur engine out. if ur going for racing then yeah get it cuase you get the most gains out of a crank pulley thumbsup

The problem is that the UR pulley doesn't have a torsional dampener (a little rubber ring inside the pulley), so vibrations created by the pulley system aren't eliminated, and they all get transferred to the crank (which causes excess wear on the bearings) and the oil pump (which could cause it to shatter). If you're planning on getting a crank pulley, it's definitely advisable to get Circuitworx's solid oil pump gear. The stock one is only made of sintered metal (powdered metal pressed into a shape), and isn't strong enough to handle the excess vibrations. You may also want to get your oil examined every change to check for excess bearing wear.

As for the water pump and alternator pulleys, they're fine, since there isn't enough vibration produced on their shafts to damage anything. Just don't plan on running a big audio system using the alternator pulley.

as far as the audio system am i right in saying that anything under 600 watts rms would be fine to run becasue i'm at about 550 rms right now?

Just pick up a voltmeter before you get the alternator pulley and see how it reacts. Then install the pulley and see if there are any drastic changes.

Yes, it's not a balancer at all. It's job is to reduce vibrations created by the pulley system, and is vital to engine life. The bunch of people with blown oil pumps because of the UR crank pulley will tell you the same. smile

is ur racing lying on their website because tehy say to just put them in and forget about them and the oil pump thing they said is not related to their pulley system they said that happens even without their system

while you're emailing them...ask them what warranties they cover. because people who have tried to claim warranty have been turned down because UR will only honor warranty work from a specialized UR installer...(who are they? may i ask?) spineyes confused

sounds like you're determined to do it anyways regardless of what is posted here.

Why don't you go buy it and report back to us when the oil pump blows your motor. cause thats the risk. when the oil pump blows it doesnt go alone it takes out the whole motor in most cases.

So, if you trust UR's word and can afford to replace the engine if the worst should happen start an experiment of your own loggin everything on the car. then you can tell us what your personal experience is.

Also it's a known fact that undampened pulleys ARE harmful and are NEVER a good thing.

good luck thumbsup

I have both crank and alt. on my car and two years in the running nothing has broken, however, the squealing from the belt drives me up the wall. I put on a gatorback and that helped a lot, but looking back on it I wouldnt have done it. Do the AEM pulley.

Dont think the gains are worth the noise. Its anoying and makes your car sound broken. Plus theres a good chance that something will eventually brake

the torsional dampner is the flywheel, the vibrational dampner is the rubber ring on the crank pulley.

wink

i dont know what to do, why would a co put all that money and research in a produsct then leave out a part that is critical to the engine's life/ i thought they were a pretty reputable co.

I know, I wonder how many engines have been blown across all makes and models of the crank pulleys they have sold. It could be a good class action lawsuit IF these people can be contacted. UR is probably just denying everything b/c they don't want to admit fault and/or get sued and go bankrupt etc.

i have been told that the alternator pulley is ok as long as you dont have a system over 600 watts but the thing in question here is the crank pulley which aem dont make
