ok so today someone was telling me that some factory head units have security tags and if you try to put a converter on them they cancel out the converter, meaning converter will not work. By the way, i have a 2002 GT. The reason i ask is that i just got an infinity system. One 12 inch with an inifinity 2 channel amp. I would like to hook it up to my stock head unit and next summer buy an after market head unit. My question is will this work, meaning will the converter work w/ our head unit.

Secondly, is there a link that has the step by step explanation of how to hook up a sub and an amp to the factory headunit. I'm absolutely audio illiterate, however, i would like to learn about this hence i want to install this myself. If someone could post a link for the installation guide, it'll be extremely helpful. thnx in advance for ur help.

ok, as far as security tags go i dont know. But for converter im assuming you mean a inline speaker level to rca converter.
I did this and took out my front speakers originally. I put them on a converter to rca and then sent that to the sub amp.
Attach standard power and ground, the tricky part is making a fake remote wire, I hooked it up to a very low voltage wire (can't remmber which one) but it was around 2 volts.

lol, yea i never really cared for a system, but i go to shows and take too much shit from ppl for not having any thnump in my car.

my budget is low, so i'm installing this myself. Also, i don't let ne one touch my car. all the work on my car has been done by me and i take hella pride in that.

Yes, i am talking about the RCA converter. Can i just hook it up behind the headunit or is it a must that i hook it up to the speakers. Also, my main concern is to find out what wires to splice into to hook up the amp and sub. If i can get an installation guide of some kind it will make it hella easier than asking individual questions. Any assistance will be appreciated, as i progress and learn about this. thnx!

I got my system hook up on the stock cd player. it work fine with rca converter, i got my pro done, i think the pro hook the rca to my front of the right speakers. the bad thing is that you can't turn the cd player off when the cars on, if you do the sub will go off and vibrate the whole car(feels like the cars are about to blow)

ok cool, so far it seems as i can only hook the rca converter to the front speakers, but i feel it'll be easier to do so behind the headunit. ne one know if that's possible? and if which wires do i splice into!

I would just get your headunit first. You're not going to be able to deliver the power to your subs with just an amp and sub. The voltage (not wattage) is limited by the clean power your headunit delivers. Besides, you'll need the volume boost as a starter. My stock stereo rumbles pretty good for mid-bass. Thats where I plan to start this December! thumbsup

right, i understand that, headunit is crucial. But w/my budget it's just not feasable for me to get one at this time. Hence, plz just help me out w/ the setup i'm going for and thnx for all suggestions and concerns.

you can run the convertor off either front or rear speakers. BUT...whichever you hook it to, (let's say the front) if you fade the speakers to the rear, your subs will fade out with them and vise-versa if you hook it to the rear speakers.

i got mine 2-12"infinys hooked up to my rear speakers and it works with the radio, tape, and CD player, all stock and there is a remote wire where when you turn the deck off the whole system shuts down but i got all this done by of my friends shop also i think the wires of the rear speakers are by the glove box that where my RCA converter is by.

ok good so now i know that i can access the rear speaker wires w/o taking off the rear panels. so, can someone confirm that the rear speaker wires are really by the glove box and if so which ones? thnx

Here is a great idea. Scrap the stock radio and buy a CD player with RCA outputs and dont worry about the converter pack.

Hes just getting a signal from the speakers. Hes not trying to run the subs from the stockie. Therefore there isn't a problem. I said front speakers because they're basically useless, its nice that my feet hear the sounds but my ears dont, thats why i put subs on front and left the rears to crank my music.

What the hell are you talking about. The front speakers are far from useless. They account for most of your sound. It would be better to run just the front speakers instead of the just the rear speakers. Also the signal you get off the converter pack is weak. Just get an after market head unit and run RCAs like every other normal person.

I love Pioneer decks and Alpine decks. Clarion and JVC decks are cheap and don't last long.
