well i just did this mod today and it aint bad.
the parts needed were the 01 ecu, 01 knock sensor. the knock sensor was 150$ and the ecu got it for 120$ used.
installation took about 40 minutues approximately and wasnt the hardest thing although some previous mechanic skills might help.
now i can rev my car upto 8100rpm. for all you guys that say that you rev upto 8400rpm, how can you say that? the car barely revs upto 8100rpm and then fuel cut off comes. do you mean that the revs at that point are climbing that fast that you cant even see it going to 8400rpm or the engine is too fast for the needle to go up that fast. i tested it on 1st gear, thats where the limit kicked in. damn now i gotta test it on 2nd.
lemme know. and if anyone is thinking to do this mod, its worth it, cz celicas are meant to be reved(not that much, but a little bit), and believe me 8100rpm is way better than 7500rpm, cz theres a pull going on between 7500rpm and 8400rpm.
since i was working under the hood, i also changed the lift bolts. my car had 15,000 miles on it and its an 02, it had the redesigned bolts on it already, i thought it was gonna be the old design bolts. believe it or not, there was a slight damage to the bolts, nothing close to break at all though. you can just tell that the gold color is off a part of the screw. i would take pix of it 2morrow just so you can see.
my suggestion is to all gts users that if you drive ur car hard, or go on lift several times a day, play it safe and change the bolt every 20,000 miles.

lol i just noticed maybe your tach is 300 rpms off.. you know 7800rpm - 7500rpm = 300rpm and then 8400rpm - 8100rpm = 300rpms

thats wut i though. aftermarket 17" rims.
for sure when i had the 02 ecu it cut off at 7500rpm, and now its cutting off at 8100rpm. so im 300rpm off. anyone know how to fix this, or is this something i have to get used it?
ps lift kicks in exactly at 6000rpm

actually 1st gear flutters at 7400 all the way to 7800, on the 02 ecu.

on all the stock ecu cars 1st gear cuts out early, 2nd and 3rd you should be good to go to 8350, if your tach still doesn't indicate 8350 then you need it recalibrated.

Does the 02 GTS only have the early cut or does the 02 GT also have it?
