what is the best thing to do to upgrade the suspension and handling while maintaining fac. ride height since lowering and air bags are not an option for where i live and what i want to do espicially if i get a body kit that will bad enough with the hills around me-any input appreciated thanks

Struts and sways will make the biggest difference. I'd suggest KYB AGX and Hotchkis Street/Comp.

you should drop it a bit. maybe go with some trd springs for a nice, but not so low drop.

Sway bars are better than strut bars. Sways are the best suspension mod. You can get TRD sway bars for 160 from here http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=64&Part_cat=11&parts_id=25 or the hotchkis sway bars for 250 shipped from here http://www.titanmotorsports.com/ but call and ask for bottle . The hotchkis sway bars are stiffer which is better for performance. But if you want the trd name and to save ~$70 buy trd. Dont pay more than 200 for the installation of both front and rear if you do get them professionally installed.

get any set of coil over struts and shocks, and adjust them back up to factory height or as close as possible

They only control strut stiffness by remote, not height. Dont pay more than 200 for the installation of both front and rear if you do get them professionally installed. I wouldn't go with TRD. Hotchkis Street/Comp is much better for the price, since there's no downside to stiffer sways (they don't affect ride comfort). There's even a huge difference between Street and Comp when it comes to performance (ask PoweredbyRICE on New Celica.org ), the Comps having much better handling, but are geared towards more experienced drivers (more neutral handling than stock/TRD/Hotchkis Street understeer). get any set of coil over struts and shocks, and adjust them back up to factory height or as close as possible Not possible. Coilovers are shorter than stock even at their largest height. The reason they're able to drop safely below 2" is because they have shorter struts than any stand alone aftermarket strut (TRD, KYB, Koni, Tokico are all stock height). The downside is that the max height on your average coilover is around 1.5" lower than stock.

What exactly do you mean by neutral handling because I would say with my trd front and rear it is very neutral? No oversteer nor is there understeer. Im not arguing that hotchkis is better im just trying to figure out what you mean.

Yup, that's what I'm talking about. You probably haven't pushed the car hard enough if you didn't get one or the other. Otherwise your car would've done a 4 wheel drift off the road when you lost traction. Everyone who has upgraded from TRD to Hotchkis (Street or Comp) has loved the improvement. Here are a couple threads about it: new celica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=146346 new celica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=151073

Blue, you're wrong man. There is a difference between street/comp sways, which is why they make different pairs instead of one. You cannot ride around in a daily driver on comp sways. They're too stiff and they destroy the bump-stops on your car.

They're too stiff and they destroy the bump-stops on your car. Now that's funny! Anyone who knows anything about suspensions will immediately take my side after reading that last sentence. Sways have absolutely no connection to the bump stops. At best, stiffer sways would help preserve them, since they'd keep the car from bottoming out on a turn, but that's in an extreme case with rather poor suspension components. If you checked the info on Hotchkis' site, you'd know that the front bar from the Comps and Streets are EXACTLY the same. The only difference is the rear bar, which is stiffer and helps keep the car neutral during turns, and gives you some oversteer at the limit (also the same bar they sell individiually as an "Autocross Bar"). The only reason Hotchkis recommends them "for competition use only" is because they don't want any trouble from someone oversteering themself off the road, when they were trying to compensate for the usual understeer of the stock suspension (I spoke to someone at Hotchkis about this). Think of it in the same way that Toyota changed the shift gates to prevent people from misshifting (though they continue to do so ), but Hotchkis didn't dumb down their bars like Toyota did to the tranny. Basically, the Comp bars are for more experienced drivers who know how suspensions work, and are smart enough not to take the car to the limit the first time out after the install. Besides that and the improved performance, there is no difference in wear on anything or ride comfort between the Comps and Streets.

Thank you.: Blue BatMobile for sponsorship, Isaac for installing strut bar, Easy_C for being a great friend, Sakara for entertainment, DaBigTickett for the laughs. Everyone at Ecelica! You guys rock!
